PLPEX Prioritises Recruitment of People Bilingual in Chinese and Portuguese Registered on Portal

The “2018 Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao)” (2018 PLPEX) will prioritise the recruitment of translators and receptionists of those bilingual in Chinese and Portuguese registered on the “Economic and Trade Co-operation and Human Resources Portal between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries” (“the Portal”). They will be directly involved in promoting the development of a platform for Mainland China and Portuguese-speaking Countries in both online and offline connections.


Call for proposals of creative handicraft workshops and stage performances for the “Tap Siac Craft Market” from tomorrow (31 August)

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the “Tap Siac Craft Market” will be held from 16 to 18 November and from 23 to 25 November 2018, at Tap Siac Square. The call for proposals of “creative handicraft workshops” and “stage performances” is open from tomorrow (31 August) until 21 September, at 5:30pm.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for July 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that, attributable to the summer holiday, visitors on package tours increased by 14.0% month-to-month to 771,000, yet down by 3.3% year-on-year. Package tour visitors from Mainland China (611,000) went down by 7.5% year-on-year, while those from the Republic of Korea (49,000) and Taiwan (63,000) surged by 30.6% and 59.4% respectively. In the first seven months of 2018, visitors on package tours totalled 5,040,000, up by 10.7% year-on-year.


Macao Polytechnic Institute awards scholarships to recognise over 500 outstanding students

To praise the students for their excellence in both conduct and academic performance, the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) awarded scholarships to more than 500 outstanding students at the opening ceremony of the academic year 2018/2019 which was held on 29th of this month. Awarding scholarships affirms and recognises the students' efforts in the past academic year, to encourage them to strive for excellence in their studies, and to encourage other students to work hard to pursue academic progress and moral cultivation, as well as continuously upgrade their own value, to make contributions to Macao, the Greater Bay Area and the country.


Adhering to “love the country and Macao” Opening ceremony of the new academic year held at MPI

The opening ceremony of the 2018/2019 academic year of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) was held in the afternoon of August 29 at the MPI Sports Pavilion, with more than 900 new students joining MPI. The solemnity of playing the national anthem took place during the opening ceremony. Two thousand participants including community leaders, representatives of scholarship donors, representatives from overseas universities, MPI teachers and students, alumni, and parents paid attention to the national flag raising, and all participants sang the national anthem to express their respect and pride to the motherland.


32nd MIMF launches the “Enjoy – The Moment in music” prize game Special mocktail “L'Elisir d'Amore” available from September

The 32nd Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will kick off on 28 September. The Organiser is launching a prized game on its website, offering participants a chance to win fabulous prizes.



Extension of the exhibition “Chapas Sínicas—Stories of Macao in Torre do Tombo” in the University of Macau Library

With an objective to promote and increase the awareness and understanding of “Chapas Sínicas”, the second phase of the exhibition will take place in the Archives of Macao from 21 August to 7 December; and an extended exhibition will be staged in the University Gallery at the University of Macau from 5 September to 31 October. Jointly organized by the Archives of Macao and the National Archive of Torre do Tombo and co-organized by the University of Macau Library, the extended exhibition will showcase some of the pieces from the first phase of the exhibition.


UM scholar receives Development Contribution Award from International Association of Chinese-Japanese Contrastive Linguistics

Prof Chen Fangze, associate professor from the Centre for Japanese Studies, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Macau (UM), recently received the Development Contribution Award from the International Association of Chinese-Japanese Contrastive Linguistics (IACJCL) at the Tenth Symposium on Chinese-Japanese Contrastive Linguistics held at Suzhou University, for his outstanding contributions to research on Chinese-Japanese contrastive linguistics and the development of the association.
