Renowned philosopher, Professor Chen Lai hosts the “Lecture by Master of Culture” on Sunday

In order to enrich residents’ cultural life and to broaden their cultural horizons, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) organizes the “Lectures by Masters of Culture” programme. This year’s lecture “The System of Values and World Vision of Chinese Culture – The Globalization Perspective” will be held on Sunday, 4 November, at 3:00 p.m., at the Auditorium of the Macao Polytechnic Institute, hosted by renowned philosopher Chen Lai. Limited seats are still available. The public are welcome to make a reservation.


UM’s Global Leadership Development Programme now open for enrolment

The sixth module of the Global Leadership Development Programme Series: International Integrated Resort Management, co-organised by the University of Macau’s (UM) Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management (APAEM) and Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), is now open for enrolment. With a theme titled ‘Contextual Mindset in Integrated Resort’, the programme will take place in Macao from 30 November to 3 December. Davis Fong, director of UM’s Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming, as well as associate professor Ricardo Siu and assistant professor Morris Liu from the FBA will be the keynote speakers. All are welcome.


Consumer Report issue no. 302 featuring test reports on quilts and package forwarding service

The Consumer Council published issue no. 302 Consumer Report, featuring two reports on the effectiveness of quilts and package forwarding service, consumers can visit the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo) to read the detailed reports before purchasing the related products and services.



External merchandise trade statistics for September 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for September 2018 amounted to MOP935 million, down by 8.5% year-on-year. Value of domestic exports (MOP120 million) declined by 36.3%, with that of Pharmaceutical products & organic chemicals decreasing by 66.5%; moreover, value of re-exports (MOP815 million) decreased by 2.3%, with that of Diamond & diamond jewellery and Garments falling by 51.2% and 36.4% respectively. Total merchandise import rose by 7.6% year-on-year to MOP7.60 billion, of which imports of Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products, Watches and Garments & footwear expanded by 59.8%, 15.4% and 13.8% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in September amounted to MOP6.67 billion.



UM scholar’s history book awarded publication grant by Harvard-Yenching Institute

Associate Professor Yang Bin from the Department of History, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Macau (UM), received a publication grant from the Harvard Yenching Institute for his book titled ‘Cowrie Shells and Cowrie Money: A Global History’. The book will be published this December by the authoritative Routledge in the United Kingdom.

Consumer Council conducted its specific price survey on tissue papers, household cleansing products, and oral care products on 29 October for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June.


OM travels to Shanghai to take part in the 20th China Shanghai International Arts Festival and earns public praise

Invited by the respective organization, the Macao Orchestra (OM) of the Cultural Affairs Bureau travelled to Shanghai between 20 and 25 October to perform at the 20th China Shanghai International Arts Festival. Under the guidance of its Music Director and Principal Conductor, Lu Jia, OM took to the stage of the Shanghai Symphony Hall together with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra to interpret Bruckner’s Symphony No.8 in C minor. Thanks to an excellent performance, the Orchestra earned the praise and applause of the public.
