Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for August 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that inbound package tour visitors surged by 68.8% year-on-year to 224,000 in August 2024, with those from mainland China soaring by 70.7% to 211,000. In addition, international tour visitors increased by 44.3% to 11,000; those from the Republic of Korea (5,000) and India (2,000) leapt by 61.4% and 337.5% respectively.


External merchandise trade statistics for August 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise exports amounted to MOP1.16 billion in August 2024, up by 17.2% year-on-year. Value of re-exports rose by 22.1% to MOP1.03 billion, of which re-exports of Non-diamond jewellery and Perfumes soared by 178.6% and 177.8% respectively, while those of Wines and Articles for casino slid by 68.3% and 50.6% respectively. Value of domestic exports dropped by 12.0% to MOP124 million, of which domestic exports of Pharmaceutical products & organic chemicals and Bread, pastry, cakes, biscuits & other bakers' wares declined by 62.1% and 17.6% respectively, while those of Copper & articles thereof grew by 25.3%. Meanwhile, total merchandise imports dipped by 7.4% year-on-year to MOP10.41 billion; imports of Gold jewellery and Beauty, cosmetic & skincare products reduced by 49.5% and 25.9% respectively, whereas imports of Articles for casino and Motor cars showed respective growth of 91.3% and 12.9%. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP9.26 billion in August.




UM Vice Rector Rui Martins receives national award in electrical engineering from Ordem dos Engenheiros of Portugal

Rui Martins, vice rector of the University of Macau (UM), has been honoured with a national award in electrical engineering by the Ordem dos Engenheiros of Portugal in recognition of his significant contributions to the field of electrical engineering, as well as his efforts to promote the development of teaching and research in electrical engineering at UM and to facilitate industry-academia technology transfer.


'Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region – 2024 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon' to be held on 1 December

Organized by the Sports Bureau, Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) and the General Association of Athletics of Macau (AGAM), the ‘Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region - 2024 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon’ will take place on 1 December (Sunday). The Organizing Committee held a press conference today (25 September) to announce the details and registration arrangements for the event. The press conference was attended by Mr. Luís Gomes, President of the Sports Bureau; Mr. Philip Cheng, Director of GEG; Mr. Chan Pou Sin, President of AGAM; among others.

The “2024 Macao-Hengqin Promotion Seminar (Chengdu)”, jointly organised by the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute of Macao Special Administrative Region and the Economic Development Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Co-operation Zone in Hengqin, kicked off on 24 September and was attended by over 150 representatives of the government departments, MICE industry associations and MICE event organisers from Macao, Hengqin and Chengdu. At the Seminar, the business negotiation and exchange sessions were arranged, facilitating more than 90 business talks. The activities enhanced the MICE exchange and co-operation between Chengdu and Hengqin-Macao.


The First Batch to Withdraw the 2024 Fund Allocation of the Central Provident Fund, Money was Credited to Accounts Today

The first batch of people approved to withdraw the Special Allocation from Budget Surplus 2024 of the Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System will receive the relevant funds starting today (25 September), and there are more than 82,000 people in total.


Ilha Verde Library closes on 30 September Bairro da Ilha Verde Library opens on the same day

In order to optimise the reading resources of the community and contribute to the development of Macao as a “City of Reading”, the Bairro da Ilha Verde Library, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), will be officially open on 30 September, replacing the Ilha Verde Library located at No. 281, Avenida da Concórdia, Edifício “May Fair Garden” II Fase, 4 andar, Macao.
