80 Macao Companies Conduct Approximately 1,200 Business Matching Sessions at CIIE, Indicating that Exhibition Participation is a Major Channel for Expanding New Customer Base

The six-day 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) successfully concluded yesterday (10 Nov). Over 600 Macao and Portuguese-speaking country products and services showcased in the "Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries Food and Beverage Pavilion" and the "Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries Professional Services Pavilion" received high consultation interest. A total of 80 Macao enterprises participated in around 1,200 business matching discussions during the exhibition, covering areas such as food agency and distribution, wine trade, cross-border e-commerce, essential oil projects, and exhibition co-operation.


UM students win award at international genetic engineering competition

A team of undergraduate students from the University of Macau (UM) participated in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Competition 2024 held in Paris, competing against teams from top universities around the world. They won a silver medal for their research on developing a novel exosome-based therapeutic approach to target cancer cells. This is the sixth consecutive year that UM has received an award in the iGEM Competition.


Deputy secretary-general of Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao visits UM

Danilo Afonso Henriques, deputy secretary-general of the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), visited the University of Macau (UM), and was warmly received by Rui Martins, vice rector of UM, and Hu Weixing, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS). During the meeting, the two parties exchanged views on strengthening economic and trade relations between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and explored potential areas of cooperation.


Mortgage loans statistics – September 2024

According to statistics released today (11 November) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) and commercial real estate loans (CRELs) both increased month-on-month in September 2024. With regard to the outstanding balances, RMLs dropped whereas CRELs witnessed an increase on a monthly basis.

The Legislative Assembly called for the plenary meeting and approved the seconding draft of the “Legal regime of radiocommunications” on 28 December 2024, the law shall enter into force on 1 January 2025.


UTM's “Idea-cation 2024” Competition concludes with success

“Idea-cation 2024” competition organised by the Macao University of Tourism (UTM) was successfully completed today (10 November). This year, with the support of the Macao Jiangmen Youth Association (澳門江門青年會) as a support unit, UTM continued with the themes of Macao’s “1+4” strategy for appropriate economic diversification and “Rural Revitalisation and Regional Development”. Idea-cation 2024 aims to innovate tourism to boost the local economy. This year’s competition had a unique twist, asking teams to design an A1 poster and a travel route on the map highlighting exemplary events and elements from two locations: Track 1 showcases Macao’s events and the “1+4” strategy for appropriate economic diversification, while Track 2 focuses on tourism initiatives for Tangkou Town (located in Kaiping City, Jiangmen in Guangdong Province).
