Mandarin’s House Gift Shop calls for the participation of the Macao cultural and creative entities to sell their products on consignment

In order to create more channels for selling local cultural and creative products and promote local creativity, every year the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) selects entities from the Database for Macao Cultural and Creative Industries (Database) to present and sell their own creative products on consignment in the Mandarin’s House Cultural Relics Information Centre and Gift Shop. Application for the 2018 consignment programme is now open until Friday, 17th November 2017. All interested cultural and creative entities are welcome to apply for inclusion in the Database to join the selection of 2018 consignment programme. Those already on the list of the Database are qualified for selection and need not re-apply, but may submit any updates to IC before the application deadline.



Exhibition “Language & the Art of Xu Bing” opens on 8 November featuring 30 significant artworks

The Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, invited eminent curators Feng Boyi and Wang Xiaosong to present the first solo exhibition of internationally recognised artist Xu Bing in Macao, entitled “Language & the Art of Xu Bing”, featuring 30 significant works by Xu Bing, including Book from the Sky and Book from the Ground, the magnum opuses of his accomplishments and prominence in the international art arena, as well as the experimental trials and rough sketches leading to their completion. The artist’s new work, specially created for this exhibition, will also be presented. The exhibition will be inaugurated tomorrow, 8 November, at 6:30pm.

Consumer Council conducted its first ‘Supermarket price survey’ in November on 7 November for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets near Areia Preta, Mong Há and Avenida de Venceslau de Morais in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish.




Consumer Council conducts price survey on selling prices of fresh pork and vegetables from Zhuhai, HK, and Macao

For the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June, Consumer Council collects prices of fresh pork from wet markets and supermarkets for consumers’ reference on 7 November. The mentioned data collected during 1 November to 7 November are used for comparing the average selling price of the same products from Zhuhai and Hong Kong. The relevant data has been uploaded to the Council’s website for consumers’ reference.


Results of wholesale and retail survey 2016

Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that a total of 14,465 Wholesale & Retail establishments and stalls were operating in 2016, an increase of 460 year-on-year. Total number of persons engaged rose by 6.7% to 68,292, with employees accounting for 82.1% of the total. Receipts of Wholesale & Retail Trade amounted to MOP 110.91 billion in 2016, up by 1.8% year-on-year. Driven by the growth in Compensation of Employees (+12.0%) and Operating Expenses (+14.4%), expenditure of the sector increased by 1.4% to MOP 100.95 billion; meanwhile, Purchase of Goods & Commission Paid (-2.3%) registered decrease. Gross Surplus of the sector totalled MOP 9.54 billion, down by 12.2% year-on-year. Gross Value Added that measures the sectoral contribution to the economy decreased by 1.5% to MOP 19.08 billion. Gross Fixed Capital Formation went down by 15.1% to MOP 2.55 billion owing to a decrease in fixed assets acquired by the establishments.
