Mobile payment and payment card statistics – 1st Quarter 2025

According to statistics released today (7 May) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, in the first quarter of 2025, the number and the value of transactions of local mobile payment tools both witnessed annual growth. On the other hand, the credit card and the debit card turnover both decreased from the preceding year.


“Craft Market in the Greater Bay Area” calls for stall operators to participate in the Hong Kong Book Fair

The Cultural Affairs Bureau will hold the event “Craft Market in the Greater Bay Area”, and organise the participation of Macao’s cultural and creative entities in the cultural and creative product zone at the Hong Kong Book Fair this July. Applications for handicraft stalls (excluding food and beverage categories) are open from today until 21 May, and application is free.


Xia Baolong to visit Macao

The Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Director of the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, Mr Xia Baolong, will visit Macao from 8 to 13 May, in order to get better understanding on the latest developments in Macao society and its economy, and on the work of the new-term Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR).


Macao’s original IP brands expand global market reach at Hong Kong International Licensing Show

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym) organised the participation of Macao’s industries in the Hong Kong International Licensing Show 2025 from 28 to 30 April, setting up the “Macao Creative Pavilion” to increase the visibility of local original IPs and enhance the brand influence through various approaches including brand promotion and business pairing sessions.


Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau launches the 39th issue of Books and the City focusing on the intersection of reading and sports

The 39th issue of Books and the City, published by the Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), is now available to the public. Themed “Reading and Sport”, this issue is focused on the intersection of reading and sports. Professional guests were invited to explore the interaction between reading and sports, and to provide practical suggestions, encouraging the public to develop a good reading and sports habits.


IPIM and UTM Jointly Launch “‘Premium Goods’ Macao Ideas Exhibition and Sales Campaign” to Tap into the Generation Z Consumers

The Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the Macao University of Tourism (UTM) joined hands for the first time to launch the “‘Macao Premium Goods’ Exhibition and Sales Campaign by Macao Ideas x Macao University of Tourism” for three consecutive days starting today (6th). This event has brought together 16 local brands at UTM. To comprehensively support the expansion of “Made in Macao”, “Macao Brand”, and “Macao Design” products into new markets, this event set foot in local campus for the first time. The innovative “Campus + Sales Roadshow” model aims to facilitate Macao enterprises in accessing universities and engaging with the Generation Z consumer market. Furthermore, students of Master of Science in Digital Marketing and Analytics are tasked with promoting these products to young customers through popular channels like social media and live streaming broadcasts. Students majoring in marketing and branding are engaged directly with exhibitors at the event, allowing them to gain insights and experiences in practical branding operations.


MPU CEC's Macau Airworthiness Course is Now Accepting Registrations

To enable more interested individuals to deepen their understanding of professional aviation knowledge and to further promote the development of the aviation industry in Macao, the Centre for Continuing Education (CEC) of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) is offering the Macao Airworthiness Course. The course is accredited by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Macao Special Administrative Region. Enrolment is open from now until 23 May 2025 with limited spots available.


Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr. Tai Kin Ip, leads a delegation to Europe to strengthen cooperation in science, trade, and finance

CCAC assisted Hong Kong with detection of case involving accounting enterprise group that helped Macao construction company to falsify accounts for listing application

The CCAC has assisted the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) of Hong Kong with the detection of a case of alleged falsification of accounting reports by a Macao construction company in collusion with a Hong Kong accounting enterprise group in order to deceive the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) into approving its listing application.
