UM’s new Master of Design and Doctor of Design programmes now accepting applications

The University of Macau (UM) will launch a Master of Design (MDES) in Visual Communication Design programme and a Doctor of Design (DDES) in Visual Communication Design programme in the 2025/2026 academic year, with the aim of cultivating creative talent in visual communication design with theoretical expertise and fostering the development of Macao’s arts and design industry and contributing to the city’s economic diversification. The two programmes are now accepting applications until 31 May.



IAM further launches e-services for administrative licenses to make procedures more convenient

To complement the development of e-governance of the SAR Government, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) continues to optimise administrative procedures of various types of licenses and launch more e-services convenient for the public. The e-services for “cancellation” of 11 administrative licenses were further launched on 28 April this year following the full implementation of renewal services of administrative licenses available on the “Business & Associations Platform” since last year.


Wages of construction workers and prices of construction materials for the first quarter of 2025

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that, after discounting the effect of inflation, the real wage index of construction workers increased by 0.7% quarter-on-quarter in the first quarter of 2025. Meanwhile, the price index of construction materials for residential buildings went down by 0.2%.


Monetary and financial statistics – March 2025

According to statistics released today (2 May) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply continued to grow in March 2025. Meanwhile, resident deposits rose from a month ago whereas loans to residents posted a decline.


Preliminary figures for Gross Domestic Product for the first quarter of 2025

Starting from the reference period of the first quarter of 2025, the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) releases preliminary figures for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) about 30 days after the end of the reference quarter, and publishes the revised figures later on, to provide more timely GDP data to the public. Detailed results of the revised GDP for the first quarter of 2025 will be released on 16 May 2025.



UM launches Doctor of Philosophy in Brain and Cognitive Sciences programme to nurture interdisciplinary talent

The University of Macau (UM) will launch a Doctor of Philosophy in Brain and Cognitive Sciences programme in the 2025/2026 academic year. The programme aims to nurture top-tier research talent for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, advance cutting-edge research in cognitive neuroscience, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration. The programme is now accepting applications until 31 May.


IAM optimises plan for collection of large unwanted furniture items and increases the number of collection points to over 130

To facilitate the public’s disposal of bulky garbage, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has formulated a plan for the collection of large unwanted furniture items. Collection points for large unwanted furniture items are set up in the different districts of Macao in May, August and November each year. The mentioned plan is optimised this year and the number of collection points has been increased from 60 to 136, spreading across Macao Peninsula, Taipa and Coloane. IAM calls on the public to comply with the mentioned plan and dispose of their unwanted furniture items properly at the designated time and locations. Offenders may be prosecuted.


【Celebrate International Museum Day】 Macao Grand Prix Museum offers free admission and educational activity on 18 May

In celebration of International Museum Day, the annual global event on 18 May, the Macao Grand Prix Museum (referred to as the “Museum”), under Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO)’s management, will be open to the public for free admission on the day. Three sessions of a fun educational activity will engage participants for free at the Museum on the day. Signups are welcome online from tomorrow (1 May).
