Candidate for CE election to present political platform on 28 September

The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive Election will host a “presentation and question-and-answer session on the political platform of the candidate for the post of Chief Executive”. The session will take place on 28 September (Saturday), from 10am to 1pm, at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex.


Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR—Retrospective Exhibition of Macao Decorative Archways for the Celebration of China’s National Day opens today

Organised by the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) and the Oral History Association of Macao, co-organised by the Macau Artist Society, and supported by Macao Daily News, the “Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region—Retrospective Exhibition of Macao Decorative Archways for the Celebration of China’s National Day” will be held from today (20 September) in the IAM Gallery. Through displaying precious photos of the decorative archways, their design drawings, and interviews with craftsmen, the exhibition with rich, invaluable content showcases the development and changes of the archways built to celebrate the National Day since the late 1940s.


Results of household income and expenditure survey 2023/2024

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released the results of the Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES; formerly known as Household Budget Survey) conducted from March 2023 to March 2024. HIES, which is carried out once every five years, aims to understand the consumption pattern and income distribution of the households in Macao. The latest data will be used to update the Consumer Price Index basket of goods and services and their respective weights, as well as to revise the basis for calculating private consumption expenditure of Gross Domestic Product.


UM, GDIIST establish Joint Laboratory of Cognition and Brain-Inspired Intelligence

The University of Macau (UM) and the Guangdong Institute of Intelligence Science and Technology (GDIIST) held a plaque unveiling ceremony for the ‘Joint Laboratory (Research Center) of Cognition and Brain-Inspired Intelligence of University of Macau and Guangdong Institute of Intelligence Science and Technology’. A collaborative effort between UM and GDIIST, the joint laboratory will focus on the field of cognitive and brain-inspired intelligence technologies, explore new cooperation mechanisms oriented towards major tasks and goals and innovative models for integrating research and teaching, thereby providing new impetus for technology development and talent cultivation in Macao and Hengqin.


Transition period for application for registration of veterinary surgeons to end on 27th this month

According to the “Law on Veterinary Clinical Care and Commercial Activity of Animals”, individuals engaged in the profession of veterinary surgeons in Macao must apply for certification of veterinary professional accreditation and registration of veterinary surgeons. Among them, the transition period for application for registration is about to end on 27 September 2024. The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) urges individuals who meet the requirements of the transitional regime and have successfully completed the “certification of veterinary professional accreditation” to submit their applications for registration as soon as possible.


Consumer price index (CPI) for August 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI for August 2024 rose by 0.74% year-on-year, down by 0.08 percentage points from the growth in July (+0.82%).


Iao Hon Estate completes setting-up of property owners’ management committees

Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) is pushing forward the Iao Hon Estate redevelopment project. Having been in constant communication with property owners of over 2,000 households, MUR has assisted the setting up of management committees (colloquially known as property owners’ associations) of a total of 46 buildings from the seven plots of land that make up Iao Hon Estate. To make further progress for the realisation of the redevelopment plan, MUR has collected most of the property owners’ signatures for the application of the Urban Conditions Plan (PCU) and is actively contacting property owners who are currently overseas.


[Macao-Hengqin Investment Promotion through Collaborative Efforts] Macao and Hengqin Economic and Trade Departments, and Macau Association of Banks Jointly Engage in Investment Promotion in Beijing Connecting with 15 Companies from the Zhongguancun Listed Companies Association

In mid-September, the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) of Macao Special Administrative Region, the Economic Development Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Co-operation Zone in Hengqin, and representatives from the Macau Association of Banks traveled to Beijing to strengthen localised promotion, attract projects, and continue to drive industrial development in Macao and Hengqin. In addition to visiting listed and key enterprises, the Macao-Hengqin investment promotion team co-hosted the “Macao-Hengqin Industry Matching & Exchange Conference for Zhongguancun Enterprises” with the Zhongguancun Listed Companies Association, engaging in in-depth exchanges and interactions with 15 companies. The overall feedback was positive, with over half of the companies expressing plans to establish operations in Macao and Hengqin.


Sam Hou Fai accepted as candidate for Chief Executive election

The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive Election issued a notice today, confirming Mr Sam Hou Fai as the accepted candidate for the Chief Executive election.

The “Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, and the 25th Anniversary of Macao’s Return to the Motherland ‧ 29th Macao International Trade & Investment Fair” (29th MIF) organised by the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) will take place from 16 to 19 October (Wednesday to Saturday) at Cotai Expo, The Venetian Macao. Shenzhen is invited as the partner city in this year’s event themed “Economic Diversification and Development Opportunities”.
