The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) and animal protection groups will continue to organise multiple activities in December, including the “Sharing Talk on Adoption of Dogs and Cats” and the “Talk on Health and Veterinary Care of Dog Breeds” with the theme of Chihuahua. In addition, the “Pet Preparatory Class—Pet Information Station” will tour different neighbourhoods to continuously promote the concepts of animal epidemic prevention and protection, adoption and being a responsible owner. Members of the public are welcome to participate in the activities.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 252,082 as at end-October 2024, up by 0.5% year-on-year. In October, cross-border vehicular traffic (840,729 trips), passenger ferry trips (6,861 trips) and arriving and departing commercial flights at the Macau International Airport (4,624 trips) rose by 23.3%, 9% and 22.6% year-on-year respectively. As at end-October, number of mobile phone subscribers (1,443,673) and internet subscribers (771,907) showed respective growth of 5% and 7.3% year-on-year.

The Financial Intelligence Office of the Unitary Police Service (GIF) has marked its 7th year of successful “Public-Private Partnership” implementation, fostering a stable relationship with the banking sector. On 25 November 2024, GIF hosted its 12th “Joint Meeting on Prevention and Suppression of Financial Crimes” to strengthen the effectiveness on preventing and combating crimes of money laundering and terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”) in Macao. During the meeting, representatives of GIF presented data on suspicious transaction reports in Macao, comprehensively analyzed recent typologies and trends of suspicious transactions in the financial sector, and discussed the latest international standards for AML/CFT. Through experience sharing and information exchange, GIF aimed to enhance the vigilance of banking sector against risks of financial crime and deepen their understanding of prevention and combat measures thereof.

The UM-Peking University Frontiers Science Center Joint Symposium was held today (27 November) at the University of Macau (UM). Jointly organised by the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of UM, the Ministry of Education Frontiers Science Center for Precision Oncology (FSCPO) of UM, and the Frontiers Science Center for Cancer Integrative Omics (FSCCIO) of Peking University (PKU), the event brought together around 150 experts and researchers in biomedical sciences to discuss the latest developments in cancer treatment.
