“Law on Veterinary Clinical Care and Commercial Activity of Animals” enters into force and law popularisation in community deepens knowledge of sector
Law no. 4/2023 “Law on Veterinary Clinical Care and Commercial Activity of Animals” has entered into force on 1 April this year. Individuals who practise the profession of veterinary surgeon in Macao must go through the “certification of professional accreditation of veterinary surgeons” and obtain the registration card, whereas establishments of veterinary clinical care, breeding, sale and boarding of animals are required to hold a license for the establishments before commencement of business. The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) constantly strengthens popularisation of the law in the community, joins hands with relevant authorities to explain the regulatory requirements for use of veterinary medicines to the sector, and sends staff to visit the establishments concerned to promote the legal implementation of the law by the sector.

Macao’s original IP brands participated in Hong Kong Licensing Show to explore international market
The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym) has organised the participation of Macao’s cultural and creative industries in the “Hong Kong International Licensing Show 2024” from 27 to 29 April in Hong Kong, in which it has set up the “Macao Creative Pavilion” and the promotion sessions, promoting the visibility of Macao’s cultural and creative brands.

Macao International Museum Day Carnival 2024 opens in May gathering the power of museums to create a sustainable future
In order to celebrate the International Museum Day on 18 May, over 20 museums in Macao co-organise the annual event of the museum sector, the “Macao International Museum Day Carnival 2024”. The opening ceremony will be held on 12 May (Sunday), at 2pm, at the Mount Fortress Garden. The event will feature a wide range of intriguing activities, including game booths, workshops and guided tours. All are welcome to participate. IAM sets up 60 temporary collection points for large unwanted furniture items
To facilitate the public’s disposal of large unwanted furniture items, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will set up 60 temporary collection points for large unwanted furniture items in the different districts of Macao from 1 to 7 May. Out of the 60 temporary collection points, 50 are located in the Macao Peninsula, 6 are located in Taipa and 4 are located in Coloane. IAM urges the public to dispose of unwanted furniture items properly at the specified time period and locations to avoid affecting environmental hygiene, as well as pedestrian and traffic safety.

Multiple New Travel Measures to be Implemented in May to Facilitate Businesses: IPIM Strives to Promote the MICE Industry and Investment
The National Immigration Administration will implement a host of travel facilitation policies and measures to enable convenient personnel and business exchanges between mainland China and Macao from 6 May, including the “intelligent express application” and “national express” for mainland Chinese citizens to apply for commercial visa to Hong Kong and Macao, and the extended period of stay for business visa holders visiting Hong Kong and Macao from seven days to 14 days, as well as the issuance of the one-year multiple-entry permit for eligible mainland residents who come to Macao to participate in MICE events. These measures will greatly facilitate Macao’s business and trade activities in Macao, such as MICE events and investment promotion, as well as customer base expansion.

Transport and communications statistics for the 1st quarter of 2024
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 250,702 as at the end of the first quarter of 2024, up by 0.4% year-on-year; light automobiles (116,337) and heavy motorcycles (108,657) rose by 1.9% and 0.1% respectively. In the first quarter, new registration of motor vehicles grew by 3.0% year-on-year to 3,085 (including 960 electric vehicles); of which, light automobiles increased by 44.8% to 1,583 (400 of them were electric), whereas heavy motorcycles dropped by 32.8% to 1,143 (244 of them were electric). New registration of motor vehicles in March fell by 22.2% year-on-year to 1,008 (including 264 electric vehicles). In the first quarter, traffic accidents went up by 20.6% year-on-year to 3,755, which resulted in 2 deaths and 1,324 injuries. Number of traffic accidents in March climbed by 23.3% year-on-year to 1,301, with 1 person killed and 471 persons injured.
