MSAR Government donates 30 million to support earthquake relief in Gansu and Qinghai

The Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government has decided to allocate 30 million patacas as support for the earthquake-stricken areas in Gansu Province and Qinghai Province.


CE welcomes release by the Central Government of Hengqin development plan

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, today welcomed the Central Government’s release of the “Overall Development Plan for the Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin” known as the “Hengqin Plan”, and the “Overall Development Plan for Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone” (“Qianhai Plan”).


IFTM launches undergraduate programme in International Business and Innovative Communication

The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) continues to expand its portfolio of programmes with the launching a brand-new Bachelor of Science degree programme in International Business and Innovative Communication (IBIC), as a timely response to the demand of local industries. Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macau Conference on Biomass Energy and Materials held at UM

The University of Macau (UM) and Nanjing Forestry University jointly held the Third Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macau Conference on Biomass Energy and Materials. The conference brought together experts and scholars from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao to present their latest research findings and contribute their wisdom to the innovation and development of sustainable energy and biomass materials.


UM holds conference on governance challenges in GBA

The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) of the University of Macau (UM) successfully hosted the academic conference titled ‘Forging Solutions to Governance Challenges in the Greater Bay Area: Diverse Perspectives, Methods, and Paradigms’, with the aim of promoting an in-depth dialogue between academics and practitioners. During the conference, scholars from renowned universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, and the University of Hong Kong addressed the governance challenges in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), transcending the boundaries of traditional disciplines.


IFTM students develop marketing campaign for local businesses

The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) continues to offer integrated entrepreneurship course, aiming to cultivate an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset with practical skills among students. Students from the Tourism Business Management programme have made a significant positive impact on a local restaurant, by developing and executing a marketing campaign through their entrepreneurship course project.


D. Maria II Hill Park to reopen

After renovation and reorganisation by the Municipal Affairs Bureau, the D. Maria II Hill Park in Macao will reopen to the public starting from 27 December, providing the public and tourists with a pleasant place for leisure and relaxation of the body and mind.


Consumer price index (CPI) for November 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI for November 2023 (105.05) grew by 1.16% year-on-year. The increment was attributed to dearer charges for eating out, rising tuition fees, as well as increases in prices of clothing and liquefied petroleum gas; yet, the rise was partially offset by falling pork prices, lower rentals for dwellings and decreases in airfares and wages of domestic helpers. Among the various sections of goods and services, the price indices of Clothing & Footwear, Education and Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages rose by 5.03%, 5.02% and 2.61% year-on-year respectively, whereas the indices of Transport, Household Furnishings & Services and Housing & Fuels dropped by 3.26%, 0.75% and 0.50% respectively. The CPI-A (104.49) and CPI-B (105.80) recorded respective growth of 1.02% and 1.35% year-on-year.


Visitor arrivals for November 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals soared by 604.9% year-on-year to 2,583,597 in November 2023; however, the figure represented a drop of 6.3% month-on-month. Same-day visitors (1,356,802) and overnight visitors (1,226,795) leapt by 697.0% and 525.0% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors dropped by 0.7 day year-on-year to 1.2 days; the duration for overnight visitors (2.2 days) decreased by 1.3 days whereas that for same-day visitors (0.2 day) rose by 0.1 day.


IAM sets up mobile stations for processing dog license application and renewal

To provide convenience for owners to apply for and renew dog licenses, as well as to vaccinate dogs against rabies, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will set up the “Mobile Service Stations for Dog License Application and Renewal” in various districts in Macao between January and February 2024.
