UM professor Mak Pui In elected member of Academy of Sciences of Lisbon, Portugal
Mak Pui In, director of the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI, deputy director of the Institute of Microelectronics, and professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Macau (UM), has been elected as a foreign corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon (Academia das Ciências de Lisboa, ACL), Portugal. He is also the first foreign corresponding member of the academy who was born and educated in Macao. This honour not only recognises Mak’s outstanding achievements in scientific research, but also helps strengthen the academic cooperation between Macao and Portugal.

Visitor arrivals for February 2024
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals soared by 106.7% year-on-year to 3,293,564 in February 2024, recovering to 92.9% of the level in the same month of 2019; besides, the figure represented a rise of 15.1% month-on-month. Same-day visitors (1,867,660) and overnight visitors (1,425,904) leapt by 148.9% and 69.1% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.2 day year-on-year to 1.1 days; the decrease was mainly caused by a slight increase in the proportion of same-day visitors in the total number of visitors. The average length of stay of overnight visitors (2.2 days) and same-day visitors (0.3 day) remained unchanged.

FSS Reminds that Failure to Provide the Proof of Life by the End of March will Affect Pension Payment

Among the approximately 159,000 beneficiaries receiving old-age and disability pension who need to provide the proof of life in 2024, about 4,000 people still have not yet provided it. The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) reminds beneficiaries to quickly provide the proof of life using electronic methods such as the "Macao One Account". For beneficiaries who have not provided the proof by the end of March, the related pension payment will be suspended from April.
