The University of Macau (UM) held a talk titled ‘Curiosity Driven Research as Foundation for New Resource Recovery Processes’ as part of the University Lecture Series today (6 November). Mark van Loosdrecht, a renowned Dutch environmental engineering expert, professor and chair of the Department of Environmental Biotechnology in the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, was the speaker. During the talk, he discussed environmental engineering issues from the perspectives of water resources management, technological innovation in water treatment, basic research, and the training of professionals.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 1,355 new companies were incorporated in the third quarter of 2023, an increase of 383 year-on-year. Number of new companies operating in Wholesale & Retail Trade and Business Services totalled 472 and 408 respectively. Total value of registered capital of the new companies fell by 39.6% year-on-year to MOP535 million due to the incorporation of a new company with relatively large capital in Financial Activities in the same quarter last year. Meanwhile, companies in dissolution totalled 242 in the third quarter, and the value of registered capital of these companies amounted to MOP57 million.

From now on, you can apply for Social Security System’s unemployment allowance through the "Macao One Account". In one go, applicants can file an application to the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) through the system, as well as register for job search with the Labour Affairs Bureau (abbreviated to DSAL in Macao) for involuntary unemployment. The entire process is done online, so there is no need for the applicant to run around.

The five-day “Macao Week in Fujian•Xiamen” came to a successful conclusion on 30 October. During the roadshow, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) organised 28 Macao enterprises to launch marketing displays; and also co-organised with the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce to hold the “Xiamen-Macao Business Matching and Networking Session”, where more than 150 business talks were arranged for 190 delegates of enterprises from the two places. A Macao beer brand reached co-operation with a Xiamen enterprise at the event, planning to introduce Macao products into thousands of retail stores in Fujian.

Considering that the draft “Civil Aviation Activity Law”, which introduces the new legal system for the civil aviation activities in the Macao SAR, is still under legislative process, it is necessary to maintain the present airline concession system so that Air Macau can continue to provide uninterrupted services to the Macao residents and the visitors. Consequently, the Macao SAR Government decided to extend the concession contract of Air Macau for 3 years or until the new Law is effective. The SAR Government reiterates that the concession contract does not hinder the foreign airlines to fly to Macao.
