Monetary and financial statistics – September 2023

According to statistics released today (3 November) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply rebounded in September. Meanwhile, resident deposits rose from a month ago whereas loans to residents posted a decline.



IFTM Idea-cation 2023 Competition brought participants to explore Zhongshan's Cultural Heritage and Resources

The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) has launched the Idea-cation 2023 competition (the 3rd edition since its inaugural event in 2021), receiving enthusiastic response of application from both the High School Student and Open categories. After selection process, a total of six high school teams and sixteen higher education institution teams have been shortlisted to the competition. The competition includes on-site exploration, bringing the participants for a trip to Zhongshan in Guangdong Province, to explore the region's cultural heritage and abundant resources.


UM, University of Coimbra strengthen teaching and research collaboration through multiple initiatives

A delegation led by João Nuno Calvão da Silva, vice rector of the University of Coimbra, visited the University of Macau (UM). During the visit, the two parties held a book presentation and recognition ceremony to pay tribute to two professors in UM’s Faculty of Law (FLL) for their academic contributions. In addition, the two universities signed a cooperation agreement for their Joint Laboratory of Cognitive Aging and held a plaque unveiling ceremony, with the aim of strengthening teaching and research collaboration.

IAM signs memorandum of cooperation with Gongbei Customs District on joint supervision of safety of aquatic food animals supplied to Macao

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) and Gongbei Customs District further strengthen their cooperation in food testing and inspection. They signed “Memorandum of Cooperation in Establishment of ‘Advance Inspection and Cooperation in Supervision’ Model for Aquatic Food Animals Supplied to Macao” to enhance joint supervision at source, further facilitate cross-border trade in Zhuhai and safeguard the food safety and stable supply of aquatic food animals supplied to Macao.


Cultural Affairs Bureau launches online virtual tours of The House of Macao Literature offering new experiences in exploring the local literature

In order to promote the development and utilisation of digital cultural resources, The House of Macao Literature, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym), launches online virtual tours, allowing literary enthusiasts to have a better understanding of the spatial layout and exhibits of The House of Macao Literature. The public is welcome to use this service.



Wages of construction workers and prices of construction materials for the third quarter of 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average daily wage of construction workers decreased by 0.5% quarter-on-quarter to MOP782 in the third quarter of 2023. The average daily wages of local workers (MOP988) and non-resident workers (MOP694) went down by 0.7% and 0.3% respectively.
