Macao to mourn former premier Mr Li Keqiang, with flags at half-mast

The remains of Mr Li Keqiang, a former premier of the State Council, who died on 27 October in Shanghai at the age of 68, will be cremated in Beijing on Thursday (November 2).


CE to deliver 2024 Policy Address on 14 November

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, will deliver the Policy Address for the Fiscal Year 2024 on 14 November, at the Legislative Assembly. The session will be held at 3pm. It will be followed by a press conference at the Government Headquarters at 5.30pm, when Mr Ho will answer questions from the press.


Operatic tradition Cultural roots back to Macao’s stage

Transport and communications statistics for September 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 250,246 as at end-September 2023, up by 0.8% year-on-year; light automobiles (115,046) and heavy motorcycles (108,943) rose by 1.2% and 1.5% respectively. New registration of motor vehicles in September dropped by 20.8% year-on-year to 941 (239 were electric vehicles). There were 459 light automobiles (129 of them were electric) and 412 heavy motorcycles (62 of them were electric), representing decreases of 15.2% and 33.1% respectively. In the first three quarters of 2023, new registration of motor vehicles grew by 19.7% year-on-year to 8,885. Number of traffic accidents in September climbed by 18.1% year-on-year to 1,166, with 2 persons killed and 416 persons injured. In the first three quarters of 2023, there were 9,914 traffic accidents, which resulted in 7 deaths and 3,463 injuries.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for September 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 137 hotel establishments offered accommodation services to the public in September 2023, an increase of 17 year-on-year. Total number of available guest rooms grew by 22.2% to 46,000. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms in September hiked by 41.1 percentage points year-on-year to 78.6%, with the rates for 5-star (81.9%) and 2-star hotels (77.3%) surging by 46.0 percentage points and 35.7 percentage points respectively.


The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies rises in 2023 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects

In the newly-released 2023 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) ranks 42th globally in the subject “Hospitality and Tourism Management”, which is significantly higher than last year’s ranking of 51 – 75. In addition, IFTM also offers Dual Master’s Programmes with the University of Surrey from the United Kingdom and the University of Queensland from Australia, which rank 2nd and 8th globally in the above ranking. These collaborations open new doors for IFTM students to pursue global opportunities, and contribute to the enhancement of the quality of education.


Macao Pavilion of Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART) Call for exhibitors

In order to foster the development of Macao’s film and TV industry and help the industry to expand the market, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will set up the “Macao Pavilion” at the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART) in 2024. IC is now calling for the participation of local film and TV production entities at the FILMART. Interested parties are welcome to apply from 26 October to 20 November 2023. The application is free of charge.
