Response regarding reference to Macao in human trafficking report by the U.S.

The Office of the Secretary for Security of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) expresses strong opposition to a reference relating to Macao in the 2023 Trafficking in Persons Report, issued lately by the Department of State of the United States.


IAM to remove silt in pond in Lou Lim Ioc Park

From early November, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will remove silt and miscellaneous objects accumulated in the pond in Lou Lim Ioc Park to improve its ecological environment, which is affected by the murky water. During the dredging period, the park will remain open. IAM reminds the public to refrain from entering the work area to avoid accidents.


Results of transport, storage & communications survey 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 3,293 establishments operating in the Transport, Storage & Communications Sector in 2022, a decrease of 27 year-on-year; total number of persons engaged went down by 1,451 to 18,992. Receipts and expenditure of the sector amounted to MOP16.83 billion and MOP15.16 billion respectively, down by 11.7% and 10.3% year-on-year. Gross Surplus totalled MOP1.67 billion, a decline of 22.9% year-on-year. Gross Value Added that measures the sectoral contribution to the economy dropped by 9.5% year-on-year to MOP6.16 billion. Meanwhile, Gross Fixed Capital Formation surged by 137.2% to MOP1.54 billion on account of purchases of vehicles and equipment by some establishments.


Employment survey for July – September 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the general unemployment rate for July - September 2023 was 2.4%, down by 0.1 percentage point from the previous period (June - August 2023); the unemployment rate of local residents remained unchanged at 3.1%, while the underemployment rate dropped by 0.2 percentage points to 1.6%.

In order to facilitate the policy initiatives of the Macao SAR government and establish Macao as a prominent hub for international examination and certification services, contributing to the development of Macao as the “World Centre of Tourism and Leisure”, Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) and Kao Yip Middle School have jointly established the pioneering “Base for Training Cooperation Model on IELTS International English Test” in Macao, the plaque unveiling ceremony for which took place on October 19, 2023. The base aims to nurture English talents in a comprehensive way, further promoting the development of students’ English learning and examination skills and enhance the overall standard of English proficiency in Macao.

A local woman lost MOP 3.9 million to investment fraud Guard against “pig-butchering” scam

The Judiciary Police (PJ) received a report of an online investment scam where the victim met a self-proclaimed “Regimental Commander of the National Army” through a karaoke chat app. Following the swindler’s instructions, the victim made multiple investments. When the latter discovered she could not withdraw money, she suspected fraud and alleged she had lost approximately MOP3.9 million.


Beware of a new type of FaceTime Phone Fraud

Some residents filed reports with the Judiciary Police (PJ) alleging they got a FaceTime video call from a stranger. When the victim picked up the call, someone who claimed to be a staff of Apple Inc. explained that there were some irregularities with the user’s account and asked the victim to provide personal information. The latter found the call suspicious and hung up. After verifying with Apple, the call was proven to be a hoax.


Stay vigilant against fake MPay Phishing SMS Prevent money from being stolen

Multiple residents filed reports with the Judiciary Police (PJ), claiming they had received phishing SMS purportedly from MPay. The SMS alleged the victim’s Mcoins were about to expire. To redeem, the victim should log into a counterfeit website by entering their MPay username, password, verification code, and transaction password.
