IFTM and Swiss Education Group co-organised a City Salon

The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) and Swiss Education Group (SEG) co-organised a City Salon in January, 2024. IFTM students from the School of Hospitality Management had the opportunity to engage in warm and friendly discussions with SEG representatives and alumnus on topics of interest.


Company statistics for the whole year and 4th Quarter of 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 5,011 new companies were incorporated in 2023, an increase of 900 year-on-year. Number of new companies operating in Wholesale & Retail Trade and Business Services totalled 1,877 and 1,359 respectively. Total value of registered capital of the new companies fell by 89.0% year-on-year to MOP1.65 billion in 2023, attributable to the incorporation of new companies with relatively large capital in Financial Activities in 2022 (a 15.0% year-on-year increase would be seen in registered capital if those companies were excluded from the comparison). Number of companies in dissolution was 914 in 2023, and the value of registered capital of these companies amounted to MOP486 million.


Monetary and financial statistics – December 2023

According to statistics released today (5 February) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply retreated in December. Meanwhile, both resident deposits and loans decreased from a month earlier.



Flora Park is open 24 hours a day from today onwards

To facilitate the optimisation of the zonal pedestrian network in relation to the Guia Hill Pedestrian Tunnel walking system and at the same time enable the public to make use of more green and leisure space at any time, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has adjusted the opening hours of Flora Park to 24 hours a day from today onwards.



“Refreshing Fujian: Starting Point of the Maritime Silk Road – Showcase of Intangible Cultural Heritage” inaugurated presenting the essence of traditional folk customs of Fujian Province

In order to strengthen the cultural exchanges and cooperation between Macao and Fujian, and enhance the public’s understanding of the country’s intangible cultural heritage, the “Refreshing Fujian: Starting Point of the Maritime Silk Road – Showcase of Intangible Cultural Heritage”, presented by the Macao Special Administrative Region Government and the People’s Government of Fujian Province, was inaugurated on 2 February, at the Mount Fortress Garden. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Zheng Xincong; the Vice Governor of the People’s Government of Fujian Province, Jiang Erxiong; the Chief of Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Ho Ioc San, representing the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government; the Vice-Chairman of the Culture, History and Study Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the President of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Foundation, and the President of the Federation of Associations of Cultural Sectors of Macau, Wu Zhiliang; the Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the President of the Fukien Natives General Association of Macao, Chan Meng Kam; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Leong Wai Man; the Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, Lawrence Ho; the Deputy Director of the General Office of the People’s Government of Fujian Province, Fan Qinghong; and the 2nd Class Inspector of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Fujian Province, Zhang Lifeng; and was also attended by a number of guests from the cultural sector of Fujian Province and Macao. During the ceremony, puppetry and martial art performances with Fujian characteristics were held, creating a lively atmosphere.


【Equipped for hospitality】 “Macao Welcomes You” Training Programs for International Guests commences for professional enhancement of travel trade

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and MGM jointly organize the “Macao Welcomes You” Training Programs for International Guests to provide online and offline training opportunities. The programs cover knowledge and skills of hospitality for international visitors, training about cultural customs, language proficiency, etc. Tourism and related industry professionals as well as college students can enhance their knowledge and skills of tending to visitors from different cultural backgrounds. The programs will contribute to the sustainable and quality tourism development in Macao.


Exhibition on French Impressionism opens at UM, offering visual feast to audience

The opening ceremony of the exhibition ‘With The Sunshine, Across The Sea: From French Impressionism to Landscape Paintings of Macao’ was held at the exhibition hall of the University of Macau (UM) Museum of Art today (2 February). The exhibition showcases nearly 130 masterpieces by Théodore Géricault, Claude Monet, and Gustave Courbet, attracting many UM students and faculty, as well as people from different sectors of the community to enjoy the visual feast.
