UM rector leads delegation to visit partner universities in Japan to enhance integrated development of research and teaching
Yonghua Song, rector of the University of Macau (UM), recently led a delegation to Tokyo, Japan, to visit the Chinese Embassy in Japan and several renowned universities . The trip has seen the implementation of multiple cooperation initiatives in research and teaching, further enhancing cooperation and exchanges between UM and other higher education institutions in the Asia-Pacific region.

‘Bank of China Proudly Sponsors: 70th Macau Grand Prix Celebration – Guia Circuit Fun Run’ to open for registration starting Sunday
The ‘Bank of China Proudly Sponsors: 70th Macau Grand Prix Celebration – Guia Circuit Fun Run’ organised by the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee, Bank of China (Macau), and Sports Olympic Committee of Macau, China will take place at 6:30 a.m. on 5 November. Registration for the fun run will open at 9 a.m. on 22 October (Sunday) and anyone aged 15 or above (born in or before 2008) with a valid identification document are welcome to sign up. A limited quota of 4,000 places is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Consumer price index (CPI) for September 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI for September 2023 (104.86) grew by 0.86% year-on-year. The increment was attributed to dearer charges for eating out and rising tuition fees, as well as increases in hotel room rates and clothing prices; yet, the rise was partially offset by falling airfares and lower rentals for dwellings. Among the various sections of goods and services, the price indices of Recreation & Culture, Clothing & Footwear, Education and Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages rose by 5.45%, 5.13%, 5.06% and 2.67% year-on-year respectively, whereas the indices of Transport and Housing & Fuels dropped by 3.75% and 1.25% respectively. The CPI-A (104.31) and CPI-B (105.59) recorded respective growth of 0.70% and 1.06% year-on-year.

IFTM signed strategic cooperation agreement with data technology enterprise to nurture professionals through school-enterprise collaboration
With the purpose of facilitating the development of smart tourism characterised by digitalisation, networking and intelligence, and exploring the application of information science in the formation of Macao as a “World Centre of Tourism and Leisure”, the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) and Senge Data Technology Macao Ltd. (Senge) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement that both parties will establish and operate a “Joint Laboratory on Culture and Tourism Metaverse”, and that key innovative cooperation will be implemented in the areas of industry-education integration, talent cultivation, and commercial application, promotion and generalisation.

Government Headquarters open to the public this weekend

The Government Headquarters Open Day sessions will be held on Saturday and Sunday (21 and 22 October), from 9am to 6pm. The public can visit the Protocol Palace and the gardens of the Government Headquarters. The theme of this year’s floral arrangements is “Macao Food Festival”. Members of the public will also have the opportunity to enjoy live music and dance performances.
