Brighten “golden calling card”: MGTO and local tourism industry promote Macao in Thailand and bring home three PATA Gold Awards

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), together with local travel trade, is promoting Macao at the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Travel Mart 2024 being held in Bangkok, Thailand, as part of the work to increase international visitor source markets. One of the highlights of the event, the 2024 PATA Gold Awards presentation ceremony, was held today (28 August), with MGTO and two Macao tourism industry operators featuring among the winners. Together with Macao tourism industry, MGTO strives to brightening Macao’s golden calling card as an international metropolis.




UM continues to recruit top international scholars to expand its outstanding teaching and research team

The University of Macau (UM) today (28 August) held the Welcome Reception and Orientation for New Academic Staff 2024/2025 to welcome a new batch of distinguished scholars. With its growing international reputation and influence, the university has recruited 67 outstanding scholars from around the world this academic year.


UM English Debating Team wins championship in national competition

The English Debating Team of the University of Macau (UM) won the championship in the Star of Outlook National College English Debating Competition, triumphing over universities from across the country. The grand final will be broadcast on CCTV, allowing audiences nationwide to witness the exceptional performance of the UM students.



Over 20 “fans” of a famous Mainland China boy band fell prey to a concert ticket scam

Many “fans” of a well-known boy band from Mainland China who held a concert in Macao earlier, had become victims of an online ticket scam. Since the 23rd of August, the Judiciary Police (PJ) has received at least 20 reports involving 24 victims, with a total loss exceeding 210,000 Macao Patacas.


Education and Youth Work for the 2024/2025 Academic Year

According to the statistics of the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), in the 2024/2025 academic year, there are a total of 10 higher education institutions in Macao, 76 non-higher education schools with 116 school units (formal and recurrent education), among which 103 school units are included in the free education system, benefiting about 80,000 students. In addition, the first school for the children of Macao residents in the Guangdong–Macao In-Depth Co-operation Zone in Hengqin is to officially come into operation, creating a learning and living environment for students fairly close to that in Macao and providing Macao residents with more convenient conditions for learning in the Zone.


External merchandise trade statistics for July 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise exports amounted to MOP1.18 billion in July 2024, up by 18.3% year-on-year. Value of re-exports rose by 23.2% to MOP1.05 billion, of which re-exports of Garments and Footwear soared by 137.1% and 117.1% respectively, while those of Articles for casino slid by 45.4%. Value of domestic exports dropped by 9.4% to MOP134 million, of which domestic exports of Garments and Pharmaceutical products & organic chemicals declined by 33.7% and 8.7% respectively, while those of Copper & articles thereof grew by 5.1%. Meanwhile, total merchandise imports dipped by 4.3% year-on-year to MOP10.58 billion; imports of Gold jewellery and Watches reduced by 38.3% and 29.7% respectively, whereas imports of Articles for casino and Motor cars showed respective growth of 152.8% and 25.0%. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP9.40 billion in July.


Renovation works at Taipa Terminal Post Office
