35th Macao International Music Festival presents the programmes of the “Joe Hisaishi 360” series this week

The 35th Macao International Music Festival, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will present the programmes of the “Joe Hisaishi 360” series between 20 and 22 October at the Macao Cultural Centre.

The 1st China-Portuguese-Speaking Countries Economic and Trade Expo (Macao) (1st C-PLPEX), the 28th Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (28th MIF) and the Macao Franchise Expo 2023 (2023MFE) kicked off today (19 October). The three exhibitions with 20 exhibition areas and more than 60 activities during four consecutive days will fully exploit the momentum produced by “industry + MICE” and establish a platform for the MICE industry to develop business opportunities for all sectors of society.




UM students win award in national bridge design competition for university students

Students from the University of Macau (UM) participated in the Mao Yisheng Public Welfare Bridge—Little Bridge Project, a national bridge design competition for university students. The UM team stood out from a total of 91 teams from 47 universities, including Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, and Tongji University, and won a second prize, which was the best result among the participating universities from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and from abroad.


IFTM hosts 2023 edition of International Tourism and Retail Service Management Conference to Explore the Synergies between Tourism and Retail in an Uncertain Era

The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) is proud to host “The 5th International Tourism and Retail Service Management Conference (TRMC2023)” on 19 and 20 October. The conference will be held in a hybrid format, featuring in-person presentations as well as online streaming sessions. Importantly, this marks IFTM's first face-to-face academic conference since the pandemic. With the theme “Strengthening the synergies between tourism and retail in an uncertain era,” the conference aims to bring together scholars and industry professionals from around the world to discuss and explore forward-thinking ideas, challenges, and opportunities in these industries, particularly in the aftermath of the pandemic.


Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for August 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that receipts of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments surged by 78.4% year-on-year in August 2023. All types of interviewed establishments registered a year-on-year rise in receipts, with Western Restaurants reporting a notable increase (+142.6%); receipts of Chinese Restaurants and Local Style Cafes, Congee & Noodle Shops swelled by 97.8% and 56.7% respectively. In addition, sales of the interviewed retailers leapt by 71.2% year-on-year in August; Department Stores (+135.7%), Adults' Clothing Retailers (+113.8%), Leather Goods Retailers (+96.7%) and Watches, Clocks & Jewellery Retailers (+94.9%) posted significant growth in sales, whereas Motor Vehicle Retailers (-29.7%) recorded a sales decrease.
