MICE statistics for the first quarter of 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that number of MICE events rose by 22.9% (+77) year-on-year to 413 in the first quarter of 2025, and the total number of participants & attendees grew by 3.7% to 188,000.

Mortgage loans statistics – March 2025
According to statistics released today (16 May) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) and commercial real estate loans (CRELs) both increased month-on-month in March 2025. With regard to the outstanding balances, both RMLs and CRELs witnessed declines on a monthly basis.

Book swap activity “Book for Book” to be launched in May promoting a reading culture in the community
In order to further promote a reading culture in the community and disseminate the concept of “enriching life through reading”, the Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) launched the book swap activity “Book for Book” for the first time last year, which was well-received by the public. This year, the event will be held again in May in the communities of the Macao Peninsula and Taipa, facilitating the circulation and sharing of reading resources in the community through the establishment of a stable book exchange platform, and allowing more members of the public to participate and enjoy the fun and value of reading.

Statistics on electronic payment transaction value – restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for the first quarter of 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the electronic payment transaction value (hereinafter referred to as transaction value) for restaurants & similar establishments increased by 2.2% year-on-year to MOP3.52 billion in the first quarter of 2025, while that for retail trade dropped by 17.4% to MOP13.12 billion.

Results of visitor expenditure survey for the 1st quarter of 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total non-gaming spending of visitors decreased by 3.6% year-on-year to MOP19.62 billion in the first quarter of 2025, primarily due to a decline in per-capita spending which was partially mitigated by the increase in visitor arrivals. Total spending of overnight visitors (MOP15.38 billion) dropped by 6.4% year-on-year, while that of same-day visitors (MOP4.24 billion) rose by 8.4%.

Celebration Ceremony of the “World Telecommunication and Information Society Day” 2025
In order to celebrate the “World Telecommunication and Information Society Day” (WTISD) established by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Macau Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) held a celebration ceremony and thematic seminar at 10:00 am on May 16th. The Director of CTT, Lau Wai Meng, gave a speech. The theme of WTISD this year was "Gender Equality in Digital Transformation", aiming to promote social equity and justice, enhance women's participation in the digital age and create more development opportunities, and promote sustainable development for society.

UTM scholar receives Ministry of Education's Outstanding Achievement Award in Scientific Research
The Macao University of Tourism (UTM) is honoured to announce that Dr Wu Chi Wai (Don), a lecturer at the university, has been awarded the 9th Outstanding Achievement Award in Scientific Research (Humanities and Social Sciences) in the category of Youth Achievement Award by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. This recognition was granted for the research paper he led, “Forecasting Tourist Daily Arrivals with a Hybrid SARIMA–LSTM Approach.” Regarded as one of the most prestigious academic accolades in China’s humanities and social sciences fields, the award celebrates exceptional contributions to research innovation by young scholars under the age of 40.

Registration for “China Cultural and Natural Heritage Day” Activity Series is open
On the occasion of the “China Cultural and Natural Heritage Day” on 14 June, and with the aim of promoting traditional Chinese culture, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will host a series of exciting activities dedicated to traditional Chinese culture at various cultural facilities in Macao. The Guia Lighthouse will be open to the public with free admission. Free experience sessions of the “Visiting the Ruins of St. Paul’s in Space and Time – Exhibition of Virtual Reality at the Ruins of St. Paul’s” will be available, in a bid to enhance the public’s knowledge of Macao’s cultural heritage and showcase the cultural appeal of Macao as a “Culture City of East Asia”.

UM holds first symposium on intersecting histories of Greater Bay Area and donation ceremony of tourist and promotional literature on Canton, Hong Kong, and Macao
The Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) and the Department of History of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) of the University of Macau (UM) jointly held the First Symposium on the ‘Intersecting Histories of the Greater Bay Area (1820–1940)’ and the Donation Ceremony of Tourist and Promotional Literature on Canton, Hong Kong, and Macau. The event brought together scholars and researchers from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao to discuss the history and development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area through academic exchange and the sharing of archival resources.
