Private sector construction and real estate transactions for the first quarter of 2025

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 1,348 building units and parking spaces were purchased and sold in the first quarter of 2025 as per Stamp Duty record, and the total value of transactions was MOP5.33 billion, down by 1.5% and 28.4% respectively quarter-on-quarter. The overall average price per square metre of usable area of residential units decreased by 5.5% quarter-on-quarter to MOP71,859. A total of 212 residential units were issued the licence of use in the first quarter.


Survey on vocational training 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 67 vocational training institutions in 2024, an increase of 1 year-on-year. Number of persons engaged totalled 1,885 at the end of the year, up by 51; among them, number of teachers (full-time and part-time) grew by 54 to 1,138.


Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – April 2025

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today (15 May) that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP229.2 billion (USD28.68 billion) at the end of April 2025. The reserves decreased by 2.8% from the revised value of MOP235.8 billion (USD29.43 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-April 2025 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 87.7% of pataca M2 at end-March 2025.


Commemorative postmark cancellation service of “World Telecommunication and Information Society Day”

To celebrate the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau announces that a Temporary Post Counter will be set up at the Philatelic Shop of the General Post Office and Shop of the Communications Museum on 17th May 2025 to provide commemorative postmark cancellation service for the "World Telecommunication and Information Society Day". Interdepartmental AML/CFT Working Group Plenary Meeting

The Financial Intelligence Office of the Unitary Police Service, tasked with the coordinating role of the Interdepartmental Anti-Money Laundering/Counter Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Working Group, convened the first plenary meeting of the year on 14 May 2025. The member agencies of the Working Group are as follows: the Public Prosecutions Office, the Commission against Corruption of Macao, the Financial Intelligence Office of the Unitary Police Service, the Macao Customs Service, the Legal Affairs Bureau, the Monetary Authority of Macao, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, the Economic and Technological Development Bureau, the Financial Services Bureau, the Judiciary Police, the Public Security Police Force, the Housing Bureau, and the Independent Committee for the Exercise of Disciplinary Power over Solicitors. Around 60 representatives from the 13 agencies mentioned above attended the meeting, including directors and deputy directors, department and division heads, and operational staff.


【4th inauguration anniversary】Macao Grand Prix Museum celebrates with free admission on 1 June

In celebration of the 4th inauguration anniversary after the expansion, the Macao Grand Prix Museum (referred to as the “Museum”) operated by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will offer free admission to the public on 1 June. Colorful activities will enliven the Museum on the day, including an educational workshop, magic shows and limited special at gift shop. Residents and visitors are welcome to visit and experience the unique charm of the Macau Grand Prix.


Fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering gives talks on cutting-edge microgrid technologies at UM

The University of Macau (UM) held a two-session talk titled ‘Exploring the Full Spectrum of Microgrids: Definition, Technologies, and Examples’ as part of the IOTSC Distinguished Lecture Series. The speaker was Claudio Cañizares, fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, who shared insights into the current applications, key technologies, and future development trends of microgrids.


UM presents awards to long-serving and outstanding staff members

The University of Macau (UM) today (14 May) held the Long Service Award and Outstanding Administrative Staff Award Ceremony 2024 to honour the dedication and contributions of its faculty and staff. A total of 198 faculty and staff members were awarded Long Service Awards for reaching the milestones of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years of service. The Outstanding Administrative Staff Award and the Most Creative Slogan Award were also presented at the ceremony.


The 16th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum & Exhibition to Be Held in Macao from 10–12 June: Facilitating interconnection and interoperability

The 16th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum & Exhibition (IIICF), jointly organised by the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) of the Macao Special Administrative Region and the China International Contractors Association (CHINCA), will take place from 10 to 12 June (Tuesday to Thursday) at Cotai Expo, The Venetian Macao under the theme “Enhanced Connectivity for Win-Win Co-operation”. This year’s event highlights the expanded exhibition scale and the commitment to fostering deeper synergies between the forum and the exhibition, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of the event.


Rental statistics for the first quarter of 2025

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average rent per square metre of usable area for shops in Macao was MOP485 in the first quarter of 2025, down by 0.9% quarter-on-quarter. The average rents for office units (MOP290) and industrial units (MOP123) went down by 1.3% and 0.2% respectively quarter-on-quarter, whereas the average rent for residential units (MOP138) increased by 0.4%.
