Delegation from Greater Bay Area 5G Industry Alliance visits UM

To further advance the research on 5G communication technology in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Macao, a delegation from the Greater Bay Area 5G Industry Alliance visited the University of Macau (UM). The two parties had a discussion on creating a 5G+ ecosystem and promoting the continuous and steady development of industry-academia collaboration.



Results of gaming sector survey 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the number of enterprises engaged in gaming activities stayed at 9 in 2022. Total receipts of the gaming sector dropped by 49.2% year-on-year to MOP46.20 billion, with receipts from games of chance (MOP42.12 billion) declining by 51.5%.


Residential property price index for May – July 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the overall residential property price index for May - July 2023 decreased by 0.5% over the previous period (April - June 2023) to 250.5. The indices for the Macao Peninsula (248.7) and Taipa & Coloane (257.4) fell by 0.4% and 0.6% respectively.


Research Achievements in Biomembrane Studies by Scholars from Macao Polytechnic University Published in Top Computational Mathematics Journal

In recent years, computational simulation methods have greatly enhanced the microscale understanding of biomembrane structures, and their dynamic properties and functions across various fields. Professor Guo Jingjing, Professor Liu Huanxiang and Dr. Li Shu from the Centre for Artificial Intelligence Driven Drug Discovery at Macao Polytechnic University, in collaboration with Professor Mu Yuguang from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, published a paper titled “Application of computational approaches in biomembranes: From structure to function” in July. The paper was published in WIREs Computational Molecular Science, a top-ranked computational mathematics journal (Citation score: 20.1; Impact factor: 11.4) (https://doi.org/10.1002/wcms.1679).


【Special Notice】Postponement of the 31st Macau International Fireworks Display Contest

The 31st Macau International Fireworks Display Contest, organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office, originally scheduled to commence with the fireworks displays from Australia and Switzerland tomorrow evening (9 September), has been postponed due to uncertain weather conditions. Further arrangements will be announced at a later time.


AACM organizes “Insider Risk Workshop” to offer training on aviation security

The Civil Aviation Authority (AACM) organized the “Inside Risk Workshop” from 4 to 8 September 2023 to provide a small-sized specialized aviation security training course to help participants to strengthen their risk management skills of dealing with insider threat. The workshop aimed to ensure proper measures are implemented to maintain safe operations. A total of 20 participants attended the workshop, including representatives from Macao and two Southeast Asian countries.


Statue of Our Lady and Plaques of Stations of the Cross in Coloane restored and placed in original site

The restoration works the Statue of Our Lady, the Sculpture of the Crucifix and the Plaques of Stations of the Cross located in Rotunda de Seac Pai Van in Coloane have been completed. The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) have inspected the restored pieces on site on September 7 with staff of the Catholic Diocese of Macau, who expressed their satisfaction with the restored pieces. IAM has placed the Statue of Our Lady, the Sculpture of the Crucifix and the Plaques of Stations of the Cross at the original site according to the original layout under the guidance of the Diocese.


UM develops natural oligosaccharides for hair regeneration

A research team led by Wang Chunming, professor at the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences and the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine of the University of Macau (UM), in collaboration with Dong Lei, professor at the School of Life Sciences of Nanjing University, and Xiao Jian, professor at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Wenzhou Medical University, has developed a new biomaterial based on plant-derived oligosaccharides (OG6). The study shows that injecting OG6 into the skin of mice could markedly accelerate hair growth. The research results are protected by a granted Chinese invention patent and under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and have been published in the top international journal Advanced Materials.


Macao Polytechnic University visited Zhuhai Center for Disease Control and Prevention to promote scientific research cooperation and exchanges

In order to promote the development of the big health industry, Prof. Tong Hoi Yee, Director of Centre for Artificial Intelligence Driven Drug Discovery (AIDD) in Faculty of Applied Sciences at Macao Polytechnic University, and his team visited the Zhuhai Center for Disease Control and Prevention a few days ago. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Mei Wenhua, the Party Secretary of Zhuhai CDC, as well as by Huang Liqun, the Deputy Director, and Huang Huitao, the Director of the Microbiology Laboratory. The two parties had in-depth exchanges on scientific research project cooperation.
