Transport and communications statistics for July 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 250,063 as at end-July 2023, up by 1.1% year-on-year; light automobiles (114,717) and heavy motorcycles (108,852) rose by 1.3% and 2.2% respectively. New registration of motor vehicles in July jumped by 246.3% year-on-year to 883 (215 were electric vehicles). There were 432 light automobiles (107 of them were electric) and 391 heavy motorcycles (68 of them were electric), representing increases of 350.0% and 155.6% respectively. From January to July 2023, new registration of motor vehicles grew by 32.1% year-on-year to 6,882. Number of traffic accidents in July rose by 124.2% year-on-year to 1,130, with 381 persons injured. In the first seven months of 2023, there were 7,609 traffic accidents, which resulted in 5 deaths and 2,645 injuries.

The cross-boundary bus service between the Hong Kong International Airport Sky Pier Terminal Transfer Coach and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Macao Port will start operating today (August 30). Taking advantage of the favorable measure, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is actively organizing and vigorously promoting the convenient Hong Kong-Macao cross-border bus service, encouraging visitors from countries and regions that have no direct flights to Macao to travel to Macao via Hong Kong, and expanding more international visitor sources.

IPIM Leads 28 Enterprises to Launch Marketing Displays of Products from Macao and Portuguese-Speaking Countries in “Macao Week in Tianjin”

UM, Labour Affairs Bureau jointly offer course to train construction safety professionals
To meet the industry’s demand for construction safety supervisors, the Centre for Continuing Education of the University of Macau (UM) and the Labour Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR government have jointly offered four intakes of the certificate course for construction safety supervisors in the past year. Launched in 2005, the course has been held for 61 intakes, with a total of 1,911 participants completing the course.

Education and Youth Work for the 2023/2024 Academic Year
According to the statistics of the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), in the 2023/2024 academic year, there are 10 higher education institutions, 76 non-higher education schools and 116 school units (formal and recurrent education) in Macao; among them, 103 school units are included in the free education system, benefiting about 80,000 students.

Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for July 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 132 hotel establishments offered accommodation services to the public in July 2023, an increase of 17 year-on-year. Total number of available guest rooms grew by 37.3% to 43,000. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms in July rose by 50.2 percentage points year-on-year to 89.0%; the rates for 2-star (93.1%) and 5-star hotels (92.1%) both exceeded 90%, representing respective growth of 6.8 percentage points and 71.1 percentage points.

Public Library of Cultural Affairs Bureau launches 34th issue of Books and the City
The 34th issue of Books and the City, published by the Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), is now available to the public. In order to continuously promote the concept of “enriching life through reading” and with the aim of building Macao into a “City of Reading”, the Cultural Affairs Bureau has been making great efforts to optimise the software and hardware facilities in public libraries, extending reading activities to more people in the community by launching reading activities with diversified themes and forms. Be wary of fake couriers’ phishing SMS to avoid personal information from being stolen
Multiple residents filed complaints with the Judiciary Police (PJ), claiming they had received SMS messages with embedded links from impersonators of a courier company. According to the messages, the victims' parcels were withheld because of inadequate information. The embedded links would forward the victims to a new page requesting them to submit further information and pay extra fees.
