Stalls being relocated back to Red Market in an orderly manner and aiming to resume business in early June

The reorganisation works of the Red Market have been completed and the project is now at the acceptance inspection and facility testing stages. The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) started to work on a series of arrangements and preparations at the beginning of this year in order for the stall vendors to relocate back to the market in an orderly and smooth manner. IAM continues to communicate and coordinate with the vendors and aims for more than 120 stalls from the original Red Market to install their tools and equipment starting from late May and reopen to the public in early June, so as to serve the public in the optimised Red Market as soon as possible.


[1+4 MICE Development] IPIM Follows up on 26 Conventions and Exhibitions from May to June

More than 200 conventions and exhibitions have been successfully held in Macao from January to April 2024, including the just-concluded “6th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” and a supporting activity thereof the “Conference of Entrepreneurs”, as well as the 2024 UFI Asia Pacific Conference. From May to June, Macao will host a number of professional MICE events involving “1+4” industries, such as tourism and leisure, modern financial services and high technology, as well as infrastructure. According to the “One-stop Service” for MICE Bidding and Support provided by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), 26 conventions and exhibitions will be held in this period, implying three MICE events every week in average. These events are expected to attract over 14,000 visitors to the city.


UM professor Gui Changfeng elected as fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science

Prof Gui Changfeng, chair professor and head of the Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Macau (UM), has been elected as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He is the only scholar in Macao to receive this prestigious honour this year. AAAS is an esteemed scientific society. The fellowship, which is a lifetime honour, awarded to Prof Gui is not only a testament to his research achievements but also an international recognition of his outstanding contributions to the global scientific community.



Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau launches the 36th issue of Books and the City

The 36th issue of Books and the City, published by the Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), is now available to the public. Themed “Read Fun, Love More”, this issue invites “reading lovers” from different sectors in Macao to share their experiences about how reading has improved their lives and to recommend some nice books. Moreover, this issue also introduces the “Book Delivery Services”, “Interlibrary Loan” and “Document Delivery”, which are provided by IC’s Public Library for the readers’ convenience, promoting the development of Macao as a city of reading.



UM rector leads delegation to Australia and signs agreements with several universities

To further expand the international cooperation network of the University of Macau (UM) and strengthen its level of internationalisation, Yonghua Song, rector of UM, led a delegation to visit several leading universities in Australia. During the visit, several cooperation agreements were signed to promote exchanges and cooperation in teaching and research, as well as to explore joint efforts to cultivate innovative talent with global competitiveness.



Swimming pool of Tamagnini Barbosa Sports Centre temporarily closed

The swimming pool of Tamagnini Barbosa Sports Centre has been temporarily closed with immediate effect until further notice due to the failure to meet the required water quality standards. A series of cleaning and disinfection works will be carried out to ensure the safety of the public. The Sports Bureau regrets any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of the swimming pool and appreciate the public’s understanding.


CE meets Guinea-Bissau Minister of Economy, Planning, and Regional Integration to foster ties

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, today met with the Minister of Economy, Planning, and Regional Integration of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, Mr Soares Sambú. The two officials exchanged views on municipal construction, youth training, and other issues.
