Demographic statistics for the whole year and the 4th quarter of 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population of Macao (683,700) at end-2023 increased by 1.6% (10,900) year-on-year, mainly due to a rise (7,500) in the number of non-resident workers living in Macao. Female population accounted for 53.4% of the total population. Analysed by age group, the proportion of youth (aged 0-14) dropped by 0.9 percentage points to 13.2%, whereas that of elderly (aged 65 and above) grew by 0.7 percentage points to 14.0%. The elderly population exceeded the youth population for the first time. Correspondingly, the ageing ratio climbed to 106.1%.


Commemorative Postmark Cancellation Service of“World Forest Day”

To celebrate the World Forest Day, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau announces that a Temporary Post Counter will be set up at Senado Square, from 10:00 to 17:00 on 21st March 2024 to provide commemorative postmark cancellation service for the “World Forest Day”.

[Promoting 1+4 Development via International MICE Event] 2024 UFI Asia Pacific Conference Is to Be Held in Macao from 7 to 8 March

2024 Asia Pacific Conference of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), a prominent international MICE association, is scheduled to be held in Macao from 7 to 8 March. This is the second time that UFI Asia Pacific Conference is held in Macao after 2008, reflecting UFI’s recognition of the business environment and the MICE hardware and software capacities in Macao.


Results of survey on manpower needs and wages for the 4th quarter of 2023 – Gaming sector

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 51,771 full-time employees in the Gaming Sector at the end of the fourth quarter of 2023, a decrease of 403 (-0.8%) year-on-year. Among them, dealers totalled 23,359, down by 362 (-1.5%) year-on-year.


2024 Macao International Parade, an event of cultural integration to liven up the “City of Performing Arts”, will be held on 24 March

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), Galaxy Entertainment Group, Melco Resorts & Entertainment, MGM, Sands China Ltd., SJM Resorts, S. A. and Wynn Resorts (Macau), S. A., the “2024 Macao International Parade”, celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Macao’s Return to the Motherland, will be held on 24 March. Upholding the spirit of “Love, Peace and Cultural Integration”, this year’s Parade has entered its tenth edition. With an expanded scale, the Parade features over 80 local groups and participating groups from across the world, in an estimated number of 1,800 participants, bringing artistic performances of different styles and participating groups with conceptual themes, strengthening the synergy of the event, increasing promotional activities and pre-events in the community and historic districts, extending the influence of the Parade, thereby consolidating exchanges between civilisations and showcasing Macao’s unique charm to the world, livening up the “City of Performing Arts”.


CE attends opening of National People’s Congress in Beijing

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, today attended the opening of the second session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC), in Beijing and listened to the Report on the Work of the Government delivered by the Premier of the State Council, Mr Li Qiang.



Cambridge Librarians’ Day Forum held at UM

The 10th Cambridge Librarians’ Day Forum, jointly organised by the University of Macau Library and Cambridge University Press, was held at the University of Macau (UM). The event brought together more than 70 librarians and experts from Singapore, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan regions to discuss library development and other topics.
