Health statistics 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 1,965 doctors and 2,863 nurses in Macao at the end of 2022, up by 4.1% and 4.4% year-on-year respectively. Number of doctors and nurses per 1,000 population rose by 0.1 and 0.3 to 2.9 and 4.3 respectively.


DSI self-service application kiosks will be suspended on this Thursday and Friday due to system upgrade

The Identification Services Bureau (DSI) will conduct system upgrade from 25th May 2023 (Thursday) 9 p.m. to 26th May 2023 (Friday) 9 p.m. All DSI self-service kiosks for identification document application (i.e. self-service applications for Macau SAR Resident Identity Card, Macau SAR travel documents and certificates) will be suspended at that time. DSI are sorry for any inconvenience caused.


Results of retail sales survey for 1st quarter of 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that value of retail sales increased by 29.3% year-on-year to MOP24.00 billion in the first quarter of 2023, driven by the relaxation of border control measures. After removing the effect of price changes, the sales volume index rose by 28.5% year-on-year.


Beware of SMS from fraudsters faking courier companies

Recently, the Judiciary Police (PJ) has once again received reports concerning SMS from scammers disguised as courier service providers. Members of the public claim they have received SMS with unknown links embedded in the messages. They were informed there were problems with the delivery and were required to provide their name, address, credit card details, etc. for verification to obtain their parcels.

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, funding costs of the banking sector in Macao generally increased in the first quarter of 2023.


Applications for the 41st Macao Young Musicians Competition and Talks open from 1 June

The 41st Macao Young Musicians Competition, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym), dedicated to piano category, will be held from late July to mid-August. The competition repertoire and age requirements for all competition categories were published on 14 April, while the competition rules and regulations will be published on the Competition’s website at 10am on 24 May. Eligible Macao residents may register online through the application system on the Competition website (www.icm.gov.mo/cjmm) from 10am on 1 June to 4pm on 7 June. All participants must register through their personal/entity account of the “Macao One Account”. For more information about the account application, please visit the thematic website of the “Macao One Account” (www.gov.mo/app). Individuals can also authorise institutions or representative of the ensemble to submit applications on their behalf with an authorisation code generated after they log into the application system. The application system will be closed at 4pm on 7 June, after which late applications and payments will not be accepted.


Registration for “China Cultural and Natural Heritage Day” Activity Series is open

On the occasion of the “China Cultural and Natural Heritage Day” on 10 June this year, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will host a series of exciting activities. Different types of thematic workshops will be held at various cultural facilities in Macao, showcasing the unique appeal of intangible cultural heritage. The Guia Lighthouse, a World Heritage site, will be open to the public with free admission on 10 and 11 June, in a bid to enhance the public’s knowledge of Macao’s cultural heritage.


To commence in late June – The 11th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo rolls out Cloud Invitation and Briefing Sessions

Slated to run from 30 June to 2 July, the 11th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo (“MITE” or the “Expo”) will roll out an array of Cloud Invitation and Briefing Sessions from tomorrow (24 May). Members of the tourism and related industries from worldwide are welcome to join the Expo themed as “MITE connects the World” this year and explore business opportunities across the fields of “tourism +” together.


IAM held briefings on “Law on Veterinary Clinical Care and Commercial Activity of Animals” attended by 200 members of the public and the sector

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) recently held the briefings on the “Law on Veterinary Clinical Care and Commercial Activity of Animals”, attended by nearly 200 members of the public and sector representatives. During the briefings, IAM representatives introduced the details of the law and the transitional arrangements, and collected opinions on supplementary regulations, enabling stakeholders to better understand the framework of the law and cooperate with its implementation.
