“Fado Nights” concerts to be staged at Dom Pedro V Theatre from Friday, to enrich cultural tourism

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the “Fado Nights” concerts will be held on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 1 to 24 March, from 7pm to 8pm, at the Dom Pedro V Theatre. A total of 12 fado performances will be presented, allowing the audience to experience the charm of traditional Portuguese music in the Historic Centre of Macao. Tickets are now on sale through the Macau Ticketing Network, as well as Damai, and Cityline platforms.


Results of retail sales survey for the whole year and the 4th quarter of 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total value of retail sales increased by 49.5% year-on-year to MOP86.25 billion in 2023 amid the recovery of local retail trade; the figure represented a growth of 11.7% compared to 2019. As benefited from the rise in number of visitor arrivals, sales value of Chinese Food Products soared by 337.7% year-on-year in 2023, and the sales values of Watches, Clocks & Jewellery, Leather Goods, Department Stores and Adults’ Clothing rose by 79.5%, 74.2%, 68.9% and 61.6% respectively. By contrast, the sales value of Communication Equipment decreased by 18.6% year-on-year.


MICE statistics for the whole year and the 4th quarter of 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that number of MICE events leapt by 138.8% year-on-year to 1,139 in 2023, and the number of participants & attendees rose by 12.7% to 1,602,000. The two indicators recovered to 74.2% and 79.6% of the corresponding levels in 2019.


Employment survey for November 2023 – January 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the general unemployment rate and the unemployment rate of local residents for November 2023 - January 2024 were 2.2% and 2.8% respectively. Both indicators decreased by 0.1 percentage point from the previous period (October - December 2023) and have returned to the corresponding levels in early 2020. Meanwhile, the underemployment rate edged up by 0.1 percentage point to 1.5%.



CE in Guangzhou to boost Guangdong-Macao cooperation

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, today led a Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government delegation to Guangzhou to meet with leading officials of Guangdong Province. The two sides exchanged views on how to step up Guangdong-Macao cooperation and jointly advance development of the Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.




[Promoting Internationalisation of MICE on “1+4” Industries] The “2024 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition” (2024MIECF) is Launched at the End of March

The “2024 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition” (2024MIECF) will be held from 28 to 30 March 2024 with significant upgrades in multiple areas. A host of professional international forums will be organised, and high-profile guests will be invited to share their insights on trendy environmental protection topics, including ESG (environmental, social and governance), green finance, carbon neutrality and green transformation. Meanwhile, the “Green Transformation Service Counter” will be set up for the first time to help enterprises stay on top of future ESG trends and thus make early deployment for upgrades and transformation. Environmental protection products and services across multiple sectors will be displayed. The “Green Smart Industries Exhibition Area” will also make its debut, accompanied by the “Green Matching Area”, the “Green Public Day” and exchange activities to advance green and sustainable development in line with the country’s “dual carbon” goals and the key environmental protection policies enacted by the Macao SAR Government, including the Long-term Decarbonisation Strategy of Macao.
