IFTM Students join the local traditional folk custom as volunteers
Students of the Bachelor of Science in Cultural and Heritage Management programme at the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) recently participated in the local intangible cultural heritage festival, the Macao Festival of the Drunken Dragon, to experience and learn the atmosphere and values of the traditional festival as volunteers.

Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for May 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 130 hotel establishments offered accommodation services to the public in May 2023, an increase of 9 year-on-year. Total number of available guest rooms grew by 10.0% to 43,000. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms in May rose by 44.6 percentage points year-on-year to 78.9%; the rates for 3-star (81.0%) and 5-star hotels (79.0%) were relatively high, which showed respective growth of 37.4 percentage points and 47.6 percentage points.

Coordinated Portfolio Investment Survey – 31 December 2022
According to the statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, on 31 December 2022, investment of Macao residents (including individuals, the government and other legal entities but excluding Macao’s foreign exchange reserves) in securities issued by unrelated non-residents reached MOP1,024.6 billion at current market value, representing a rise of 1.8% from end-June 2022 or a fall of 6.7% from end-2021. Among the various instruments of portfolio investment, equity securities (including mutual funds and investment trust units), long-term debt securities and short-term debt securities were valued at MOP338.9 billion, MOP595.5 billion and MOP90.2 billion respectively. As compared with a year ago, the market values of equity securities and long-term debt securities decreased by 12.9% and 8.0% respectively whereas short-term debt securities increased by 46.6%.

UM inaugurates Macao Centre for Research and Development in Advanced Materials
The University of Macau (UM) today (27 July) held a plaque unveiling ceremony for the Macao Centre for Research and Development in Advanced Materials. The centre, established with funding from the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) of Macao, has set up three research directions, namely new energy materials, environmental protection materials, and healthcare materials, with the goal of promoting the development of the advanced material industry in Macao and enhancing productivity in scientific research and technology in the city and across the country.
