The 14th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) released The Belt and Road Infrastructure Development Index Report (2023) and the Report on Portuguese-speaking Countries’ Infrastructure Development Index and Macao’s Achievements in Belt and Road Initiative (2023) today (1 June). Macao has fulfilled its function in the construction of the “Belt and Road” Initiative (BRI), realising the development of the “Five Focuses” and further promoting BRI co-operation.

Applications are open for phase 1 of the special market to be set up in Lai Chi Vun Shipyards on weekends
In order to enrich the cultural tourism and leisure experience of the public and tourists, the Cultural Affairs Bureau plans to set up a featured market in the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards between Fridays and Sundays, as well as on public holidays. The market will be launched at the end of June, and applications for stalls are open from today (1 June) to 7 June. All interested parties are welcome to register and registration is free of charge.

UM MITMI holds committee meeting
The Steering Committee and the Academic Committee of the Macau Institute for Translational Medicine and Innovation (MITMI) of the University of Macau (UM) recently held their second meeting in Guangzhou and Macao, which combined both online and in-person elements. Experts participating in the meeting comprehensively evaluated MITMI’s recent development, spoke highly of its development direction, and recognised its achievements in regulatory science research.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will roll out the first large-scale promotional event in Asia for an international visitor market after the pandemic – the “Experience Macao, Unlimited” Mega Roadshow in Bangkok, Thailand tomorrow (2 June) for three days in a row. The Office led a delegation of Macao’s travel trade to hold a Thailand – Macao travel trade presentation seminar in advance today (1 June) for their counterparts in Thailand to learn more about Macao’s new elements of “tourism +” and fascinating aspects as a travel destination. Ideas were exchanged to design Macao travel products catering to Thailand visitors, to tap further into the Southeast Asian market.

The Steering Committee of the International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum Held Its Fourth Working Meeting in Macao
On 31 May, the Steering Committee of the 14th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum held its Fourth Working Meeting the day before the opening ceremony. Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC Guo Tingting and Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government Lei Wai Nong attended the meeting and delivered remarks on the occasion.

Celebrating its 2nd inauguration anniversary as an expanded attraction today (1 June), the Macao Grand Prix Museum (the “Museum”), under Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO)’s management, rolls out a series of special offers and optimization of facilities. MGTO Acting Director Cheng Wai Tong attended the celebration activity today to experience the brand-new Motorcycle Racing Simulator, hoping that the debut of new interactive facilities can pass on the culture of the Macau Grand Prix vibrantly and enhance the synergy of “tourism +”.

Police Circular: Beware of consumer bonus point expiry scams via SMS messages

The Judiciary Police (PJ) has again received reports of smishing through false consumer bonus point expiry notifications. A member of the public recently received a text message from an unknown sender, claiming that the bonus points in his account on a consumer platform would soon expire. He should click the embedded link in the text message to redeem rewards. Upon doing so, the victim reached a phishing website where he was required to enter his personal information and credit card details. To redeem rewards, the victim had to enter a one-time verification code to complete a credit card transaction. The following day, the victim discovered someone had linked his credit card to a mobile payment app and had conducted multiple large-sum transactions.
