Applications for the 41st Macao Young Musicians Competition and Talks open from 1 June
The 41st Macao Young Musicians Competition, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym), dedicated to piano category, will be held from late July to mid-August. The competition repertoire and age requirements for all competition categories were published on 14 April, while the competition rules and regulations will be published on the Competition’s website at 10am on 24 May. Eligible Macao residents may register online through the application system on the Competition website (www.icm.gov.mo/cjmm) from 10am on 1 June to 4pm on 7 June. All participants must register through their personal/entity account of the “Macao One Account”. For more information about the account application, please visit the thematic website of the “Macao One Account” (www.gov.mo/app). Individuals can also authorise institutions or representative of the ensemble to submit applications on their behalf with an authorisation code generated after they log into the application system. The application system will be closed at 4pm on 7 June, after which late applications and payments will not be accepted.

Registration for “China Cultural and Natural Heritage Day” Activity Series is open
On the occasion of the “China Cultural and Natural Heritage Day” on 10 June this year, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will host a series of exciting activities. Different types of thematic workshops will be held at various cultural facilities in Macao, showcasing the unique appeal of intangible cultural heritage. The Guia Lighthouse, a World Heritage site, will be open to the public with free admission on 10 and 11 June, in a bid to enhance the public’s knowledge of Macao’s cultural heritage.

IAM held briefings on “Law on Veterinary Clinical Care and Commercial Activity of Animals” attended by 200 members of the public and the sector
The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) recently held the briefings on the “Law on Veterinary Clinical Care and Commercial Activity of Animals”, attended by nearly 200 members of the public and sector representatives. During the briefings, IAM representatives introduced the details of the law and the transitional arrangements, and collected opinions on supplementary regulations, enabling stakeholders to better understand the framework of the law and cooperate with its implementation.

Survey on manpower needs and wages for the 1st quarter of 2023 – Financial activities

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released results of the Survey on Manpower Needs and Wages of Financial Activities for the first quarter of 2023. The Survey covers the Banking Sector, Other Financial Intermediation, Insurance Activities, and Activities Auxiliary to Financial Intermediation, including financial institutions supervised by the Monetary Authority of Macao, but excluding insurance agents and brokers not directly employed by insurance companies.

IFTM Educational Restaurant revitalises traditional Macanese dishes and launches Saturday Macanese buffet and retail products
In 2021, the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) was appointed as the protection unit for national intangible cultural heritage linked to Macanese Gastronomy. As such, IFTM is responsible for the promotion and inheritance of this cultural heritage and must take measures to prevent it from disappearing. Chefs of the Educational Restaurant have been committed to the study, preservation and revitalisation of traditional Macanese recipes and therefore, nostalgic dishes such as stuffed bitter gourd (margoso lorcha), fried vegetables with shrimp paste (bredo raba raba), starfruit sambal (sambal de carambola) and jaggery egg (jagra com ovos) became part of the current restaurant menu. Other products such as Macanese shrimp paste (balichão), fig syrup (xarope de figo), cornstarch cookies (genetes) and winter melon jam (doce de camalenga) are available for sale at the retail corner. Macanese traditional cakes including coconut cake (bolo menino) and pineapple cake (bolo de ananás) are also available for guests to order and share on festive occasions.

Exchange for the Tiger and Rabbit Zodiac banknotes and the XXIV Olympic Winter Games banknotes commencing today

The exchange of the Tiger and Rabbit Zodiac banknotes and the previously issued XXIV Olympic Winter Games banknotes starts today (22 May) and will end on 11 August 2023. Each registered Macao resident can bring along his/her Macao ID card to the selected bank on the selected date and exchange for 30 pieces of the Tiger and of the Rabbit Zodiac banknotes of each Issuing Bank, and 4 pieces of the XXIV Olympic Winter Games banknotes previously issued by Bank of China, totaling the exchange for 124 pieces of the mentioned banknotes with an exchange amount of MOP1,280.
