DSI’s measure to increase application service time will end on 31 March

In order to cope with the surge in demand for application service in a short period of time, the Identification Services Bureau (DSI) has extended service hours to 9 p.m. and opens on Saturday and Sunday to receive applications for identity cards and travel documents since 7th February. Until present, over 48,000residents have lodged applications. Recently, there is a significant decline in appointments for lodging application in the extended service hours. Therefore, the relevant measure will end on 31st March. DSI calls for citizens who need to apply for documents to make appointment for the relevant service as early as possible, so as to avoid hindrance to their travelling plan.


CE pledges firm support for new Hong Kong and Macao work office under CPC Central Committee

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, on behalf of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government, has pledged firm support for the central authorities’ decision to establish a new Hong Kong and Macao work office under the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.


Demographic statistics for the 4th quarter of 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population at end-December 2022 decreased by 1.5% or 10,400 year-on-year to 672,800, mainly due to a fall in the number of non-resident workers living in Macao. Female population accounted for 53.2% of the total population. The proportion of elderly population (aged 65 and above) grew by 1.1 percentage points year-on-year to 13.3%, whereas that of adult population (aged 15-64) dropped by 0.7 percentage points to 72.6%. The ageing ratio climbed by 10.7 percentage points to 94.4%, indicating that the number of elderly got closer to the number of youth.

UM, Caritas Macau co-organise experience sharing session on combating COVID-19

The Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) of the University of Macau (UM) and Caritas Macau today (16 March) co-organised an experience sharing session titled ‘At the Front Line of the Community against the Epidemic: Caritas Macau’s Experience in Coping with COVID-19’. During the event, members of Caritas Macau, including representatives of five service units, namely Caritas-Life Hope Hotline of Macau, Complexo de Serviços de Apoio Ao Cidadão Sénior Retribuição, Brilho da Vida Elderly Centre, Casa Corsel, and WelAnser Centre, discussed the organisation’s epidemic prevention strategy, psychological support service, temporary accommodation and assistance to people stranded in Macao, as well as services for the elderly and people with disabilities in residential care homes.


2023 Sands China Macao International 10K sets off on Sunday

The 2023 Sands China Macao International 10K, jointly organized by the Sports Bureau and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, and title-sponsored by Sands China Ltd., will be held on 19 March (Sunday). The Organizing Committee held a pre-event press conference today (16 March) to introduce the competition details and relevant information.


Macao and Hengqin join hands to seek business opportunities in Indonesia and promote investment door-to-door to foster multi-disciplinary co-operation

From 12 to 14 March, the “Macao-Hengqin Investment Promotion Delegation” (the Delegation) made its first stop in Jakarta, Indonesia, to launch a series of investment promotion activities and have in-depth exchanges with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Indonesia, the Directorate General for National Export Development under the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, the Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association and the Sinar Mas Group, to promote economic and trade co-operation between Macao-Hengqin and Indonesia, and to explore extensive co-operation in areas such as two-way investment, introduction of headquarter and tourism.


About 4,500 People not yet Provided the Proof of Life, the Related Pension Payment to be Suspended from April

Of the roughly 148,000 beneficiaries receiving old-age and disability pension this year, about 4,559 still have not yet provided the proof of life, the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) said. According to the law, beneficiaries are required to provide the proof of life every year, otherwise their pension payment will be affected. If a beneficiary has not provided the proof of life by the end of March, the related pension payment will be suspended from April.
