UM research team puts forward suggestions for epidemic prevention and control based on Singapore’s experience
Drawing on the experience of Singapore in combating COVID-19, the University of Macau (UM) COVID-19 research team has put forward suggestions for optimising the epidemic prevention strategy of Macao during the adaptation to the ‘ten new measures’ of COVID-19 response announced earlier by the central government. The suggestions include continuing to promote vaccination as a means of protection for the community, implementing effective triage measures and utilising healthcare channels in the community for health promotion and public education, and maintaining relatively stringent protection measures as deemed essential.

IELTS Exam at MPU-Bell Centre of English now opens for registration
IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is the world's leading international test of English language proficiency, recognized by over 11,000 institutions in more than 140 countries and taken by more than three million people each year (www.ielts.org). It is the international English language standard required for education, immigration and employment in countries and regions where English is the language of communication. The new computer-delivered IELTS test will be held in early February in 2023 at the MPU-Bell Centre of English. The test format is consistent with the paper-based test in terms of question types, level of difficulty and scoring criteria, but allows for faster results for candidates.

Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) has published the second 2022 issue of Global Gaming & Tourism Research (a total of 6 issues). This current issue of the journal covers academic papers regarding gaming and tourism. The purpose is to promote the sustainable development of the gaming and tourism industry, provide support for the scientific decision-making of the SAR government and gaming enterprises, and build a communication platform for gaming and tourism research.

Presentation of proof of a negative RAT or NAT result is required before entering the CCAC
Given that there is currently a higher risk of infecting the novel coronavirus in the community of Macao, the CCAC said that, in order to ensure the normal operation of the CCAC, from now on (14th December), whoever enters its headquarters and branch offices must present a negative result of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on the day of entering or proof of a negative result of Nucleic Acid Test (NAT) that remains valid within 24 hours after the day of specimen collection. Those who cannot present the aforesaid result will be required to do a RAT on the spot and may only be allowed to enter the aforesaid premises if the result is negative.

Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – November 2022
The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP207.2 billion (USD25.74 billion) at the end of November 2022. The reserves decreased by 1.1% from the revised value of MOP209.6 billion (USD25.92 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-November 2022 represented 10 times the currency in circulation or 83.5% of pataca M2 at end-October 2022.
