UM holds Inauguration Ceremony of Satellite Ground Station and Symposium on Disaster and Ocean Remote Sensing Technologies

The Inauguration Ceremony of the Satellite Ground Station of the University of Macau (UM) and Symposium on Disaster and Ocean Remote Sensing Technologies was recently held at UM. The event was organised by the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (SKL-IOTSC) of UM, with assistance from the Department of Ocean Science and Technology of UM’s Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the State Key Laboratory of Satellite Ocean Environment Dynamics (Second Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources). The symposium attracted many experts and scholars from mainland China, who during the event discussed innovations in remote sensing technology and their applications in urban disaster prevention and marine environment protection.


IAM to hold 4 seminars to discuss the optimisation of standards of use of food additives with the sector

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) is broadly collecting the opinions of the local food sector on “Standards of use of food additives in food” and will hold four seminars for the sector in early March to learn about the actual use of food additives in the local food production sector and exchange views on the optimisation of the relevant food safety standards. Meanwhile, the sector can also submit the questionnaire on use of food additives and opinion collection form before 10 March or call the Food Safety Hotline to give IAM their opinions and suggestions through multiple channels.



Beware of fraudulent calls purportedly from government departments

The Judiciary Police (PJ) has recently received a number of reports concerning telephone fraud. Scammers pretended to be representatives from judicial authorities or government departments and informed the victim via the phone that the latter had unclaimed court summons. They also concocted a story about the victim being part of a criminal investigation and demanded personal information. The victim became suspicious, responded with caution and was not deceived. PJ would like to remind the public that officials from judicial authorities and government departments will neither issue notice through telephone recording, nor will they request personal data over the phone.


Combining the appeal of international organisations to hold exhibitions and conferences to promote the moderate diversification of Macao’s economy

In order to facilitate the appropriate diversification of Macao’s economy, create more possibilities for Macao’s co-operation with the rest of the world, enhance its international status and influence, and in response to global climate change and China’s active participation in global environmental governance, facilitating the co-operation between the Macao Special Administrative Region and the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), a professional organisation in the sustainable development of global tropical forest resources, is of great significance.


13% of Employers Not Yet Paid Contributions, FSS Calls for More Use of Electronic Channels

As of 20 February, about 3,500 employers still have not yet paid Social Security System’s obligatory system contributions for their employees for the fourth quarter of 2022, accounting for about 13% of the total employers who are required to pay contributions. The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) calls on employers and residents to make more use of the electronic channels for payment of contributions or to use the appointment service.


IPIM meets with leaders of the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Committee to discuss about co-operation

On 17 February, Acting President of Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) Vincent U led a delegation to meet with Director General and Deputy Director General of Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province Zhang Jingsong and Chen Yuehua, and Vice President of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Committee Cui Shuang, to discuss how to deepen the synergy of economic and trade conventions and exhibitions between the two places, make good use of the advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, co-operate well in attracting foreign investment, and expand the room for development and strengthen multifaceted co-operation. Since 2020, IPIM’s Guangzhou Representative Office has assisted in the referral of a total of 40 bilateral investment projects between Guangdong and Macao, in which 34 have been implemented, involving the big health, modern finance, technology, catering, and other industries.

Adjustment of the opening hours of the Old Iec Long Firecracker Factory

In order to coordinate with the necessary regular maintenance work at the site, the Old Iec Long Firecracker Factory will be closed to the public every Wednesday, from 3pm to 7pm, starting from 22 February.
