Tapping Opportunities: IPIM Joins Hands with Companies to Take Part in the Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo

The 10th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo will be held for three days from 23 to 25 September. The Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and 19 companies which sell products from Portuguese-speaking countries (PSC) and Macao will join the event together, in an effort to bring in more business opportunities for local small- and medium-sized enterprises.




UM team makes important progress in research of new materials for energy storage

A research team led by Hui Kwun Nam, associate professor in the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering (IAPME), University of Macau (UM), has recently made important progress in the research of anode materials for potassium-ion batteries, which is expected to provide solutions for poor cycling stability problems for the development of the next generation of energy storage systems. The team has also further optimised the materials to achieve higher energy density while improving the stability and safety of the batteries. The two research results have been published in the international journal Advanced Energy Materials and Advanced Functional Materials and have applied for patents in China.


Exhibition “The Memory of the Grey Bricks” at Pátio da Eterna Felicidade unveiling the mysteries of Lingnan architecture

In order to further promote traditional Lingnan architecture and raise the public’s awareness of historical buildings, the “The Memory of the Grey Bricks - Lingnan Traditional Architecture Exhibition”, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), is held at No.10, Pátio da Eterna Felicidade. Admission is free and all are welcome to visit.


Visitor arrivals for August 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals surged by 3,295.8% month-on-month to 331,397 in August 2022, attributable to the easing of cross-boundary measures between Zhuhai and Macao in early August; however, the figure represented a drop of 19.0% year-on-year. Overnight visitors (177,640) increased by 17.5% year-on-year, whereas same-day visitors (153,757) declined by 40.4%. As affected by the previous wave of the pandemic, some visitors extended their stay until August, bringing the average length of stay of overnight visitors to rise by 1.5 days year-on-year to 5.4 days. Meanwhile, the duration for same-day visitors increased by 0.1 day to 0.2 day, and the overall average length of stay of visitors went up by 1.2 days to 2.8 days.

Starting Today, Old-age Pension can be Applied with “Macao One Account”

Starting today, eligible senior citizens can file their old-age pension applications without leaving home, on the "Macao One Account" mobile app or website. The system will automatically calculate the amount of old-age pension that the applicant can receive based on his/her acutal circumstances, and it will show the applicant’s basic information. Applicants only need to provide bank account details and perform facial recognition to complete the application process. The steps are easy, and there is no need to visit a service point in person throughout the process.



Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for July 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that, owing to the lingering impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, receipts of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments dropped by 71.4% year-on-year in July 2022. Receipts of Chinese Restaurants and Japanese & Korean Restaurants fell by 85.6% and 83.1% respectively. Meanwhile, sales of the interviewed retailers plunged by 82.0% year-on-year in July; Leather Goods Retailers (-96.3%), Watches, Clocks & Jewellery Retailers (-95.6%), Department Stores (-93.8%) and Cosmetics & Sanitary Articles Retailers (-91.3%) all posted a decline of over 90% in sales, while Supermarkets (+28.7%) registered an increase.
