MGTO supports catering competition for industry professionals to reach higher standard and gain presence in the international arena
The semi-final of Young Chef Young Waiter Macao Competition pit young local catering professionals against each other at the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) today (17 September). MGTO supports this industry event to encourage young catering personnel’s reach for a higher level of expertise and international competitiveness, which will contribute to Macao’s offer of quality tourism experiences and its sustainable development as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.

PLPEX collaborates with the professional wine and spirits competition in Mainland China for the first time promoting wines from Portuguese-speaking countries in Shenzhen and Hangzhou
The 2022 Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao) (2022PLPEX), for the first time, collaborates with the “G100 International Wine & Spirits Awards”, a professional wine and spirits competition in the Mainland. The event started with a wine competition in Shenzhen, followed by a touring exhibition in Hangzhou, and will end with an awards ceremony at the 2022PLPEX in Macao, where a Tasting Area will be in place. It aims to help SMEs “go global” at PLPEX and promote the wines and culture of Portuguese-speaking countries. Over 200 wine communities and over 1,000 distributors in the Mainland participated in the live session.

Contemporary artist Zhao Zhao shares the ideas on contemporariness in art
Organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the vernissage of the exhibition “Zhao Zhao: A Long Day” was held on 16 September on the first floor of MAM. The event was attended by the Deputy Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Yin Rutao; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Leong Wai Man; the Director of Macao Daily News, Lok Po; the President of the Macau Artist Society, Lok Hei; the Director of Faculty of Arts and Design of Macao Polytechnic University, Lai Ming Hoi. The artist Zhao Zhao and the curator Cui Cancan introduced the works to the guests.

CE: Guangdong-Macao cooperation promotes high-quality development
Macao and Guangdong will work pragmatically to press ahead with bilateral ties in a number of areas. Tickets for 34th Macao International Music Festival on sale from Sunday
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 34th Macao International Music Festival (MIMF) will be held from 25 September to 29 October. Tickets will be available through the Macau Ticketing Network from 10am on 18 September (Sunday). Ticketing services at the outlets, telephone and online booking will be available simultaneously. In order to cooperate with epidemic prevention and control measures, to reduce crowd gathering at the ticketing outlets and to safeguard the public health, an online reservation system has been set up for the first day of ticket sales. Members of the public who want to purchase tickets at the Macau Ticketing Network outlets from 10am to 12pm on the first day of ticket sales are required to make registration in advance.

Results of survey on manpower needs and wages for the 2nd quarter 2022
The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released results of the Survey on Manpower Needs and Wages for the second quarter of 2022. Survey coverage comprises Wholesale & Retail Trade; Transport, Storage & Communications; Security Activities and Public Sewage & Refuse Disposal Activities; however, the self-employed are excluded. Following the resurgence of the coronavirus pandemic in mid-June 2022, a relatively large number of employees in some industries were placed on unpaid leave; as a result, average earnings of full-time employees in June this year generally decreased.

IFTM hosts Business Strategy Innovation Competition “Idea-cation @ IFTM 2022”
Idea-cation @ IFTM gathers talents to build a platform for innovation and creativity, with the aim of helping the tourism industry seek new business opportunities and find innovative and viable solutions. Following last year’s success, this second edition calls for community input on innovative recovery strategies amidst adversity which can help Macao’s local retail brands to transform or seize new opportunities. Through the hybrid mode event, participants will get to meet entrepreneurial peers, unleash their imagination and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment when successfully pitching innovative ideas to the audience. Industry and academic experts will be invited to be team consultants or judges.
