Number of surveyed supermarkets increased to 102 Enhanced price comparison function now available at Price Information Platform

To further enhance the transparency of supermarket prices, the Consumer Council has increased the number of surveyed supermarkets and now includes 102 supermarkets in its supermarket price survey work, number of surveyed products have been increased to 400 items divided in 15 categories. The search function of the “Macao Price Information Platform” app has also been improved for consumers’ easy navigation.


Maritime Silk Road International Cultural Forum inaugurated, with the presence of experts and scholars in Macao, fully accomplishing the role of Macao as “One Platform, One Base”

Jointly presented by the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government and the National Cultural Heritage Administration of China, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, the China Academy of Cultural Heritage, the Guangzhou Secretariat of City Alliance for Maritime Silk Road Heritage Conservation and World Heritage Nomination and ICOMOS China, and co-organized by the University of Macau and the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, the “Maritime Silk Road International Cultural Forum” was inaugurated on 16 November, at the Convention Center of the Macao Science Center. Centered around the theme of “Conservation and sustainable development of the cultural heritage of the Maritime Silk Road”, the Forum has the participation of a number of experts and scholars from Mainland China, Macao, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the United Kingdom, who were invited to present their research results and deliver speeches.


List of hotels for red health code holders

In accord with the latest pandemic prevention measures for individuals entering Macao, the Broadway Hotel and Rocks Hotel will start serving holders of red health code from 22 November. The last date for red health code holders to check in at Sheraton Grand Macao is 21 November. UM experts and scholars discuss SAR government’s policy address for 2023

The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) today (16 November) held the Seminar on the Policy Address for the Fiscal Year 2023 of the Macao SAR. At the seminar, experts and scholars expressed their support for the objective of the policy address of ‘Making Progress Jointly while Ensuring Stability’. They believe that the SAR government is making great efforts to improve people’s livelihoods and promote economic recovery during the difficult times of the pandemic. They also hope that the SAR government will introduce more forward-looking policies and enhance the continuity and the general acceptance of its policy to build a solid foundation for Macao’s development in the post-pandemic era.


Results of restaurants and similar establishments survey 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 2,529 restaurants and similar establishments (including restaurants, eating & drinking places and cooked-food stalls in municipal markets) operating in 2021, an increase of 17 year-on-year; total number of persons engaged decreased by 641 to 32,186. Receipts of the industry grew by 10.9% year-on-year to MOP9.66 billion in 2021, returning to over 80% of the receipts in 2019; the growth was attributed to a rebound in visitor number and the moderate recovery of local economic activity. Expenditure went up by 9.0% year-on-year to MOP10.50 billion. The industry recorded a deficit of MOP845 million in 2021, which has narrowed compared to 2020. Gross Value Added that measures the industry’s contribution to the economy amounted to MOP3.04 billion, up by 9.1% year-on-year. Gross Fixed Capital Formation of the industry expanded by 17.1% year-on-year to MOP259 million, on account of an increase in renovation works.


Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for September 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that receipts of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments dropped by 4.1% year-on-year in September 2022. All the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments registered a year-on-year fall in receipts, with Chinese Restaurants recording a 6.8% decrease. Meanwhile, sales of the interviewed retailers went down by 11.3% year-on-year in September; sales of Department Stores, Adults' Clothing Retailers and Cosmetics & Sanitary Articles Retailers dipped by 34.0%, 18.7% and 10.8% respectively, whereas sales of Motor Vehicle Retailers increased by 13.3%.
