5th “Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries” presents a Sino-Portuguese artistic feast to promote exchange between civilisations

Under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, with the support of the Macao Government Tourism Office, the Municipal Affairs Bureau, TDM - Teledifusão de Macau, S.A., the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, and Air Macau Company Limited, the 5th “Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries” will be held from October to December this year. This edition of the event upholds the mission of intensifying mutual learning among civilisations, embracing heritage and innovation, and enhancing pluralistic dialogues and bonds among people in order to further extend the diversity and scope of the cultural encounter. The event not only integrates the “2023 GEG Lusofonia Festival”, but also features 70 sessions of activities in seven series, including the “Annual Arts Exhibition between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries”, the “China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries Film Festival”, a Portuguese fado concert, the “Chinese and Portuguese Picture Book Fair”, “Traditional Music and Dance Performance in the Community”, and wine tasting workshops, counting with the participation of near 600 artists and performers, making good use of revitalised historical districts, creating a splendid artistic and cultural park for the public and unleashing the charm of Macao as a city of Sino-Portuguese cultural and artistic encounter.


35th Macao International Music Festival offers Night of Macao on 14 October by the Macao Chinese Orchestra with erhu and handpan players

Due to the unforeseen circumstances, the guzheng master Wang Zhongshan, who play in the concert Night of Macao, integrated in the 35th Macao International Music Festival, will be replaced by young percussionist Zheng Yu.

Organized by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the “Experience Macao Unlimited” Malaysia Roadshow is rolled out in Kuala Lumpur for four consecutive days between 12 and 15 October. Unveiled by an opening ceremony today (13 October), the roadshow manifests Macao’s diverse offer of “tourism +” elements to energize Malaysians’ intent to visit Macao and tap the potential of Southeast Asia as an international market.


“Art Macao” public artwork “Macao Pointcloud Garden” offers an emotional experience that combines virtuality and reality

The public artwork “Macao Pointcloud Garden” of the “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2023” will be on display at the Former Iec Long Firecracker Factory this Saturday (14 October). The artwork, created by the French-American artist Clement Valla and curated by local curator, Lam Sio Man, will be exhibited until 10 December.


Results of restaurants and similar establishments survey 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 4,725 restaurants and similar establishments (including restaurants, eating & drinking places, takeaway shops and cooked-food stalls in municipal markets) operating in 2022, a decrease of 104 year-on-year; total number of persons engaged dropped by 2,154 to 36,515. Receipts and expenditure of the sector fell by 11.2% and 6.7% year-on-year to MOP10.32 billion and MOP11.78 billion respectively. The sector recorded a deficit of MOP1.46 billion in 2022, larger than the loss (-MOP1.01 billion) in 2021. Gross Value Added that measures the sectoral contribution to the economy amounted to MOP2.84 billion, down by 19.1% year-on-year. Gross Fixed Capital Formation of the sector expanded by 24.2% year-on-year to MOP364 million.


Tourist price index (TPI) for the 3rd quarter of 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the third quarter of 2023 increased by 22.22% year-on-year to 141.16. The rise was mainly attributable to higher hotel room rates, rising charges for restaurant services and dearer prices of jewellery. Among the various sections of goods and services, price index of Accommodation soared by 180.00% year-on-year, and the indices of Entertainment & Cultural Activities (+17.01%), Clothing & Footwear (+4.90%), Miscellaneous Goods (+4.43%) and Restaurant Services (+2.32%) showed different degrees of growth.


Replantation of flower bed at Ruins of St. Paul’s starts on Sunday according to original style

In order to raise the quality of urban greening and beautify the community environment, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will carry out replantation of the flower bed near the stone steps of Ruins of St. Paul’s according to the original style starting from Sunday (15 October).

In order to enrich the cultural tourism and leisure experience of the public and tourists, the Cultural Affairs Burau (IC) continues to hold a featured market in the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards – Plots X11-X15. Applications for stalls in new phase are open from today to 18 October. All interested parties are welcome to register and registration is free of charge.


Exhibition “Life under a Pen – Online Exhibition of the Centenary Birth Anniversary of Henrique de Senna Fernandes” to be launched on Friday

The year 2023 marks the centenary of the birth of renowned Macao writer Henrique de Senna Fernandes. The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) specially launches a special exhibition “Life under a Pen – Online Exhibition of the Centenary Birth Anniversary of Henrique de Senna Fernandes”, on the website of The House of Macao Literature, featuring a collection of over 132 exhibits. The online exhibition will be officially launched on 13 October. The public can browse the high-definition videos and images, as well as descriptions of the exhibits through the website of The House of Macao Literature (www.clm.gov.mo), reviewing the literary connotation of Henrique de Senna Fernandes and his personal achievements.


[Expanding Unlimited Business Opportunities] Brands Around the World Gather at “Macao Franchise Expo” to Expand Domestic and International Markets

Organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), Macao Chain Stores & Franchise Association, and Macao International Brand Enterprise Commercial Association, the “2023 Macao Franchise Expo” (2023MFE) will be held at the Venetian Macao Cotai Expo from 19 to 22 October 2023.
