【Vigorous preparations】 MGTO welcomes Spring Festival Golden Week with various preparative measures and wonderful festivities

The Spring Festival Golden Week will begin next Tuesday (28 February) for a stretch of eight days (28 January – 4 February). Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has been carrying out a variety of preparative measures. While preparations are underway for upcoming mega festivities, the Office is conducting promotional initiatives among visitors through different channels. Besides holding meetings with the travel trade, MGTO conducts rigorous patrols with the interdepartmental workforce and maintains close communication with Mainland tourism authorities to safeguard tourism service quality. Vigorous efforts are made to welcome visitors to Macao during Chinese New Year and ride on major festivals to foster tourism and economic development.


Ministry of Commerce of China leads delegation to visit Macao to ensure safe and stable supply of agricultural and sideline products to Macao

As the Chinese New Year is approaching, Li Na, Deputy Director General of the Department of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, led a delegation to visit Macao on 16 January for research and studies on the supply of agricultural and sideline products to Macao. The delegation met with Chao Wai Ieng, Chairman of Administration Committee on Municipal Affairs, and Ung Sau Hong, Member of Administration Committee on Municipal Affairs of the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM). Moreover, they carried out site visits of the New Wholesale Market of Macao and the Patane Market to gain an understanding of the conditions of supply of agricultural and sideline products from the Mainland, with the aim of ensuring the stable supply and safe quality of agricultural and sideline products for Macao during the festive period. The members of the delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs and the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province.






UTM will launch a Master’s programme in Luxury Hospitality and Health Service Management to cultivate interdisciplinary talents

To meet the growing demand for high-end health service experience, the Macao University of Tourism (UTM) will launch a Master of Science degree programme in Luxury Hospitality and Health Service Management in the 2025/2026 academic year. The new programme will be in effect after being published in MSAR Gazette.


UM develops two-dimensional angstrom-porous titania as novel proton-conducting membrane

A research team led by Sun Pengzhan, assistant professor in the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering (IAPME) at the University of Macau (UM), participated in the development of a novel two-dimensional proton-conducting material, angstrom-porous titania monolayer. This novel material, designed for hydrogen-based technologies such as fuel cells, offers high temperature resistance, high proton conductivity, and perfect proton selectivity. It addresses the problem of existing proton-exchange membrane being prone to dehydration and failure at high temperatures. The research has been published in the prestigious journal Nature Communications.


Visitor arrivals for December and the whole year of 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 34,928,650 in 2024, an increase of 23.8% year-on-year. Same-day visitors (18,884,882) and overnight visitors (16,043,768) grew by 35% and 12.8% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, in view of the growth in the proportion of same-day visitors, the average length of stay of visitors (1.2 days) shortened by 0.1 day year-on-year in 2024, with that of overnight visitors remaining unchanged at 2.3 days.
