Two young catering professionals from Macao competed at World Young Chef Young Waiter Competition in Monaco

The World Young Chef Young Waiter Competition took place in Monaco from 15 – 16 November. Two young catering professionals in Macao, William Wang Weicheng and Mondass Velautham, joined twelve other contestants from different countries and regions to contest the global championship. They also engaged in the Educational Day of the program to expand their expertise.


IAM carries out household surveys in enclosed building to provide food supplies

Together with the Public Security Police Force and the Social Welfare Bureau, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has formed a Subsistence Team to carry out household surveys in the Red Code building to understand the actual number of residents and their basic needs and to provide food supplies. At the same time, IAM assists the Health Bureau in arranging for each resident of the enclosed building to undergo nucleic acid screening against the virus in groups in an orderly manner.


Frozen fish fillets test positive for novel coronavirus and the whole batch has been destroyed without entering the market

Food samples collected from a batch of frozen fish fillets imported from Vietnam tested positive for the novel coronavirus nucleic acid last night (17 October). The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) immediately initiated the contingency plan and sealed and destroyed all the 20 boxes of affected goods, with a total weight of 126 kilogrammes. None of the products concerned entered the market. IAM also carried out thorough disinfection of the surrounding environment where the affected goods were temporarily stored, and information about individuals who have come into contact with the goods has been provided to the health authorities for investigation and follow-up. Starting from today, IAM suspends the application for import of the batch of products concerned.


International banking statistics – September 2022

According to the statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, the proportion of international business in the local banking sector fell in the third quarter of 2022. At end-September 2022, the share of international assets in total banking assets decreased to 84.7% from 85.5% at end-June 2022, while the share of international liabilities in total banking liabilities fell to 82.4% from 83.3%.


Maintenance of the typhoon signpost at Mount Fortress

The Cultural Affairs Bureau will carry out maintenance work on the typhoon signpost at Mount Fortress Garden from 19 November. The tropical cyclone signals and strong monsoon signals will not be hoisted during the maintenance period and intermittent typhoon signal and light tests will be conducted.


34th Macao International Music Festival enriched the artistic ambience in Macao

The 34th Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), concluded recently. This year, 11 programmes and outreach activities were successfully held, some of which were broadcast by China Media Group through new media platforms, allowing a wider audience to experience the atmosphere of Macao’s artistic and cultural events. This edition of the Festival enriched the city’s artistic ambience through a variety of music activities, with the overall ticketing sales reaching nearly 95%.


Gross domestic product for the 3rd Quarter of 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) decreased by 33.4% year-on-year in real terms in the third quarter of 2022 owing to the previous wave of the pandemic that started on 18 June. In view of a 50.8% decline in number of visitor arrivals amid the pandemic, exports of services fell by 46.7% year-on-year, of which exports of gaming services and exports of other tourism services tumbled by 72.5% and 45.9% respectively. Domestic demand slid further by 14.4% year-on-year, dragged down by a drop in gross fixed capital formation and private consumption expenditure. The implicit deflator of GDP, which measures the overall changes in prices, went down by 1.1% year-on-year.
