UM 36th Portuguese Language Summer Course now open for applications

The University of Macau (UM) is committed to nurturing Chinese-Portuguese bilingual talent and has been offering a variety of courses for many years. One of these courses, the popular Portuguese Language Summer Course, will continue to be offered online this year between 11 July and 29 July. Students, teachers, translators, and those who are interested in the Portuguese language, aged 16 or above, are welcome to apply. The application deadline is 27 May.


IPIM Holds This Year’s First Webinar to Enhance Competitiveness of the MICE Industry

To better cope with the Macao MICE development under the impact of the epidemic, and to enhance the competitiveness and professional level of the MICE practitioners, Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) held the first online training session (webinar) of the year on 26th April with the theme “Market Brief – Mainland China”. Industry experts and representatives were invited to share and exchange market trends with the participants, so as to keep them abreast of the new trends in the MICE market in Mainland China. The webinar attracted about 50 online participants from the local MICE industry, as well as teachers and students from local higher education institutions.


Road optimisation in NAPE area improves environment for pedestrians and vehicular circulation and increases area and improves quality of green areas

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) is carrying out optimisation works of pavements and carriageways in Zona Nova de Aterros do Porto Exterior (NAPE area). Barrier-free facilities are added to improve pedestrian passage environment, and the green area of pavements is greatly expanded to enhance the comfort of walking. Meanwhile, to respond to public needs and avoid repeat excavations, the Transport Bureau (DSAT) suggested straightening and widening of a section of originally bent carriageway from Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen to Rua Cidade de Sintra and adjusting positions of zebra crossings to further facilitate the dynamic flow of pedestrians and vehicles, enhance the traffic environment in the area and improve traffic safety. Recently, IAM and DSAT have introduced the optimisation proposal to the Consultative Committee on Municipal Affairs and the resident and business associations of that area. The construction works will be carried out in phases to reduce the impact on the public.


Wages of construction workers and prices of construction materials for the 1st quarter of 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average daily wage of construction workers decreased by 1.5% quarter-to-quarter to MOP787 in the first quarter of 2022. The average daily wages of local workers (MOP968) and non-resident workers (MOP716) went down by 1.9% and 0.3% respectively.


Arrangements for citizens to register for Third Round Anti-epidemic Electronic Consumption Benefit Scheme for new-born babies

In order to facilitate the registration for the Third Round Anti-epidemic Electronic Consumption Benefit Scheme for new-born babies who were given birth in Macao, parents lodging first-time application for the Macao Special Administrative Region Resident Identity Card (hereinafter called resident identity card) for their new-born babies at the Identification Services Bureau (DSI) can request help to conduct the registration. After identity cards are completed, DSI will help new-born babies to register for receiving the electronic consumption benefits by means of “consumption card”. The “consumption card” will be distributed at the time of collecting the identity card of their new-born babies.


Commemorative postmark cancellation service of “World Telecommunication and Information Society Day”

To celebrate the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau announces that a Temporary Post Counter will be set up at the Philatelic Shop of General Post Office, from 09:00 to 17:30 on 17th May 2022 to provide the commemorative postmark cancellation service for the “World Telecommunication and Information Society Day”.



Postponement of drones shows from 1 & 2 May to 3 & 4 May due to weather conditions

Owing to the weather conditions, the four shows of Light up Macao Drone Gala 2022, originally scheduled on 1 and 2 May 2022 respectively, will be postponed to 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on 3 May, and 8:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. on 4 May.
