Mortgage loans statistics – March 2022

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) increased while those of commercial real estate loans (CRELs) decreased in March 2022. With regard to the outstanding balances, RMLs dropped whereas CRELs remained virtually unchanged.


Programme New Dragon Inn of the 32nd Macao Arts Festival cancelled as the performing group is unable to come to Macao

Due to the epidemic prevention and control measures in Mainland China, the performance group of the New Dragon Inn, a programme of the 32nd Macao Arts Festival organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will not be able to visit Macao as scheduled, and the performance as therefore been cancelled. IC will arrange refund for those who have purchased tickets for the show.


Frozen shrimps test positive for novel coronavirus and the whole batch has been destroyed without entering the market

The internal packaging of a batch of frozen shrimps imported from Indonesia tested positive for the novel coronavirus nucleic acid on May 12. The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) immediately initiated the contingency plan, and sealed and destroyed the 23 boxes of affected goods after detaining them for testing. None of the products concerned entered the market. IAM also carried out thorough disinfection of the surrounding environment, and information about individuals who have come into contact with the goods has been provided to the health authorities for investigation and follow-up. Starting from May 12, IAM suspended the application for import of products of the Indonesian processing factory concerned for one week.


Survey on vocational training 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 52 institutions offering vocational training courses in 2021. A total of 1,436 courses were organised, an increase of 6.9% year-on-year. Total number of participants rose by 3.4% to 63,361.


Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – April 2022

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP214.6 billion (USD26.55 billion) at the end of April 2022. The reserves decreased by 0.4% from the revised value of MOP215.4 billion (USD26.72 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-April 2022 represented 10 times the currency in circulation or 86.7% of pataca M2 at end-March 2022.


Macao Museum of Art and Handover Gifts Museum of Macao offers diverse activities to celebrate the International Museum Day

In order to celebrate the International Museum Day on 18 May, the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) and the Handover Gifts Museum of Macao, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), will hold a series of thematic activities and exhibitions in May. Admission is free. Registration for some of the activities will be successively open from 13 May. Associations and foundations will participate in the second phase of displaying Venue QR Codes in Visit Record

The first phase of setting up Venue QR Codes in “Visit Record” finished in January 2022. In consideration of existing risks in some venue categories which were not covered in the first phase, it is time to launch the second phase of setting up and displaying Venue QR Codes.


The DSEDJ reminds parents and students to keep abreast of the latest information on weather and school suspension (if any) before going to school tomorrow morning

The Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) has maintained close communication with the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG). In view of the uncertainty of Macao weather tomorrow (May 12), the randomness of the occurrence of rainstorms and great uncertainty in rainfall areas, the two Bureaus take the safety of students as the utmost consideration, while balancing learning routines and making dynamic assessments in response to actual weather changes.
