UM wins prize in group category of Asia-Pacific M&A Moot Competition
Students from the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Law (FLL) recently won a second prize in the group category of the Tenth Asia-Pacific M&A Moot Competition. FLL student Lin Kaijun won the Best Team Member Award and the Best Performance Award. In addition, Lin was awarded the junior merger and acquisition (M&A) fellowship by the China Mergers and Acquisitions Association (CMAA).

Exhibition “YiiMa” Art Group: Allegory of Dreams inaugurated at International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia
Organised by the Macao Museum of Art, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, and co-organised by the Venice-based PDG Arte Communications as a Collateral Event from Macao, China at the 59th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, the exhibition “YiiMa” Art Group: Allegory of Dreams was inaugurated on 22 April 2022 in Venice, Italy. Curated by internationally renowned curator João Miguel Barros, the exhibition showcases 11 pieces (sets) of the latest integrated works by artists Ung Vai Meng and Chan Hin Io from “YiiMa” Art Group, which show a unique perspective that merges land and sky and offers a reinterpretation of the richness and density of some hidden corners of Macao and memories of the city that are fading away like dreams. It is the eighth year that Macao contemporary artworks have been featured in this century-old international art event, giving visitors an overview of the city’s visual art. Many guests attended in the ceremony and expressed support and congratulations for the exhibition, including the Italian Curator, Paolo De Grandis; the Italian entrepreneur, Aureliano Schirripa; the Director of the Milan-based cultural and creative brand YouthPlus, Qiu Lesha; and the representative of the art association Círculo dos Amigos da Cultura de Macau, Konstantin Bessmertny. On the day of the inauguration, a “foil stamping” art performance was given by the “YiiMa” Art Group at the collateral event and was concluded in a lively atmosphere.

Tickets for selected programmes of the 32nd Macao Arts Festival still on sale on Cotai Ticketing
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 32ndMacao Arts Festival (MAF), themed “Invigorate”, will be held from 29 April to 2 June, featuring 18 programmes, covering theatre, dance, music and visual arts, aiming to invigorate the power of the times with art. Tickets for various MAF programmes are still available for purchase, including for The Phantom of Liaozhai on May 1 at the Sands Theatre, Nine Soundscapes on May 21 and 22 at The Parisian Theatre, and the closing performance Liza Wang and The Macao Chinese Orchestra on June 2 in The Venetian Theatre. A limited number of tickets of the three programmes aforementioned will be on sale from 12am on 27 April through the Cotai Ticketing, and the all interested patrons may take this opportunity to buy tickets at the earliest convenience.

The houses of the Village of Our Lady of Ka Ho and the Taipa Houses close temporarily for renovation

In order to continue to preserve Macao’s architectural heritage and exhibition facilities and optimise related museum functions, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will carry out repair works on the electric power system of the Village of Our Lady of Ka Ho, on the 27th and 28th of April (Wednesday and Thursday). During this period, the electricity supply will be suspended and the indoor exhibitions and restrooms will be temporarily closed, while the adjacent outdoor spaces will remain open to the public. UM undergraduate student’s study on optical encryption published by top academic journal
Liu Yichen, an undergraduate student from the Department of Physics and Chemistry (DPC), Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), University of Macau (UM), and a research team led by his supervisor, Liu Hongchao, assistant professor in the FST, recently published a paper titled ‘Anti-loss-compression Image Encryption Based on Computational Ghost Imaging Using Discrete Cosine Transform and Orthogonal Patterns’ in Optics Express, a top journal in the research field of optics.
