Results of survey on manpower needs and wages for 4th quarter of 2021 – Gaming sector

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released survey results of Manpower Needs and Wages of the Gaming Sector for the fourth quarter of 2021. Survey coverage excludes junket promoters and junket associates.

Demographic statistics for the 4th quarter of 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population at end-December 2021 was 683,200, representing a quarter-to-quarter increase of 900 and a year-on-year growth of 100; female population accounted for 53.0% of the total. The proportion of elderly population (aged 65 and above) grew by 0.5 percentage points year-on-year to 12.2%, whereas that of adult population (aged 15-64) dropped by 0.9 percentage points to 73.3%. The population of Macao continued to age, with the ageing ratio rising to 83.7%.

MIECF Continues to Enrich Online Events, Connecting Traders to Counterparts at Home and Abroad
The “Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition” (MIECF) is committed to establishing itself as a key exchange and co-operation platform for the green industry and environmental protection technologies. In recent years, online activities have been added to the MIECF, such as online business matching, online protocol signing, and online exhibition, to enable local enterprises and those from Mainland China, Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs), and the “Belt and Road” countries and regions to establish co-operative ties beyond geographic boundaries, and facilitate cross-sectoral integration and co-operation through the platform. Some participating traders of the online business matching sessions expressed satisfaction with the MIECF’s online events, and an enterprise indicated that the exhibition’s online events help them expand the business and access the latest information.

Macao Students and teaching staff living in Tanzhou Town of Zhongshan will return to face-to-face teaching on March 7

The epidemic situation in Tanzhou town of Zhongshan has stabilised. Classes have fully resumed at schools in Tanzhou town since March 7. At the same time, nucleic acid tests were given in the key areas and to the three key population groups in Macao, all people got a negative result. After consulting the health department, the DSEDJ announced that since March 7 (Monday), Macao students and teaching staff of tertiary education institutions and non-tertiary education schools residing in Tanzhou town of Zhongshan will return to face-to-face teaching in Macao.

Police statistics show security situation in Macao remains stable

Crime statistics for full-2021 showed no significant change in the number of instances of violent crime that could endanger social security, namely in comparison with figures recorded respectively in 2019 and 2020. The overall 2021 crime figures showed security situation in Macao remained stable.

Gross domestic product for the 4th Quarter and the whole year of 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contracted by 4.4% year-on-year in real terms in the fourth quarter of 2021. External demand remained steady; exports of services edged down by 0.3% year-on-year, of which exports of gaming services fell by 14.4% while exports of other tourism services rose by 8.9%. Exports of goods increased by 7.7%. As regards domestic demand, gross fixed capital formation decreased by 8.7% year-on-year, whereas private consumption expenditure and government final consumption expenditure grew by 0.4% and 1.3% respectively.

CE to attend NPC opening session in Beijing

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, will visit Beijing from 4 to 7 March to attend the opening of the fifth session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing.

Monetary and financial statistics – January 2022
According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply rebounded in January. Meanwhile, resident deposits increased from a month ago whereas loans to residents posted a decline.

Extension for gaming concessions and sub-concessions to run until 31 December 2022

The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Lei Wai Nong, today said the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government had given notice to existing gaming concessionaires and sub-concessionaires regarding a proposed extension to their gaming rights. It would run until 31 December 2022, inclusive, to align wth the progress of revision to Law No. 16/2001 (“Legal Framework for the Operations of Casino Games of Fortune”).

Government steps up effort on vaccination promotion
The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Ms Ao Ieong U, today said the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government had stepped up its effort to promote COVID-19 vaccination for children and elderly people.
