Teachers and students who have resided in Tanzhou in the past 14 days will be suspended from face-to-face classes from March 1

In response to the changes in the epidemic situation in Tanzhou, in order to cooperate with the epidemic prevention measures, the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) has notified schools to arrange their school staff and students who live in Tanzhou but have returned to school today to take separation measures for epidemic prevention purposes. After communicating with the health department, the DSEDJ announced that school staff and students of higher education institutions and non-tertiary education schools who have resided in Tanzhou in the past 14 days will suspend face-to-face classes from March 1 (Tuesday), and students will study at home instead. Their assessments will be handled flexibly.


External merchandise trade statistics for January 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export amounted to MOP1.43 billion in January 2022, up by 0.3% year-on-year. Value of domestic exports (MOP199 million) increased by 18.1%, with that of Garments and Copper & articles thereof rising by 37.3% and 42.0% respectively. By contrast, value of re-exports (MOP1.23 billion) dropped by 2.1%, with that of Machines, apparatus & parts declining by 49.8%. Meanwhile, total merchandise import went up by 33.6% year-on-year to MOP14.07 billion; imports of Electronic components, Beauty, cosmetic & skincare products, Perfumes and Gold jewellery surged by 126.0%, 125.4%, 115.9% and 80.9% respectively, whereas imports of Other textile made-up articles and Construction materials fell by 34.6% and 10.1% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in January 2022 totalled MOP12.63 billion.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for January 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 118 hotel establishments offered accommodation services to the public in January 2022, a decrease of 1 year-on-year. Meanwhile, number of available guest rooms increased by 9.1% to 39,000. Data on hotel establishments designated for medical observation and self-health monitoring were excluded in the compilation of the results. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms was 44.0%, a year-on-year growth of 3.7 percentage points; however, the rate represented a month-on-month drop of 10.8 percentage points as number of overnight visitors declined by 38.1% in January compared to December 2021 amid the tightening of border-control measures between Zhuhai and Macao.


CE puts forward new requirements to optimise Government work

While reviewing the work done by the current-term Government during the past two years, the Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, announced on Saturday (26 February) new requirements to develop and implement Government work. Such initiative upheld the spirit of the Central Government’s directives to Mr Ho during his duty visit to Beijing in 2021.

According to the statistics of temporary residency for approved investors, managements and technical personnel in 2021, IPIM received a total of 1 new residence application based on “major investment” and a total of 74 new applications based on “management and technical personnel”.

The Treasure of Sacred Art of St. Dominic’s Church adjusts its closing hours

In order to coordinate with the religious activities of St. Dominic’s Church and implement appropriate crowd control measures to ensure effective epidemic prevention, the Treasure of Sacred Art of St. Dominic’s Church will adjust its closing hours from 1 March this year. The Treasure of Sacred Art will be closed all day on Thursdays as well as from 4 to 13 May each year, and will close from 3pm on Saturdays as well as on the 13th and 25th of each month (unless these dates fall on a Sunday).


Lot P temporary and home swap housing project syndicated loan contract signed today

Lot P temporary and home swap housing project syndicated loan signing ceremony was held today. Representatives from Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) and The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Macau) Limited (ICBC Macau) signed the contract for the syndicated loan to finance the construction of the project.
