Temporary Shelter Service Available at Edifício do Bairro da Ilha Verde
The “Vui Ieng Service Centre” of the Macao Caritas, located at Rua Leste da Ilha Verde, n.º 34, Edifício do Bairro da Ilha Verde, E1, provides temporary shelter service for those who are in need. To reserve limited quota for those most in need, please try to seek support from relatives and friends if possible. The Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) also urges employers to provide assistance to non-local workers with temporary accommodation needs.
Through the civil protection system, the IAS provides hourly updates on the availability of beds in the Centre for police officers on patrol so that they can advise street sleepers to move in. Over the past few days, the police have successfully persuaded some street sleepers to move in the shelter. The maximum number of beds available at the shelter is 332. The average daily occupancy has not exceeded 150 over the past days, with the maximum occupancy at about 180, which means that there are still sufficient beds available.
The service aims to provide temporary shelter for those who have no place to stay, including street sleepers and people under special circumstances. To ensure a safe environment and to reduce the risk of infection, the Centre is open from 6pm to 8am daily and is subject to thorough cleaning and disinfection at other times.
