Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals decreased by 47.8% month-on-month to 328,245 in October 2021 on account of the tightening of cross-boundary measures between Zhuhai and Macao in early to mid-October; the figure also represented a drop of 43.6% year-on-year. Numbers of same-day visitors (216,829) and overnight visitors (111,416) fell by 20.8% and 63.9% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors went up by 0.9 day year-on-year to 2.3 days, with that of overnight visitors (7.2 days) increasing by 4.5 days as some visitors extended their stay in Macao in the face of quarantine measures imposed on individuals entering Zhuhai from Macao in early to mid-October. On the other hand, the average length of stay of same-day visitors (0.1 day) remained unchanged.

The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) co-organised the 5^th International Conference on Events – Making Waves in Africa: Exploring New Frontiers in Festivals and Events held in Cape Town, South Africa. The conference is hosted by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in South Africa, co-organised jointly by Bournemouth University in the United Kingdom, Rosen College of Hospitality Management of the University of Central Florida in the United States of America and Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, China. Due to travel restrictions worldwide related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference was held in hybrid mode attended by over 130 South African and international delegates online or physically. Delegates are from 19 different countries and regions around the world: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America and Macao SAR.

The Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI (AMS-VLSI Lab) at the University of Macau (UM) recently held its fourth meeting, which involved both in-person and virtual elements. During the meeting, committee members reviewed the current development of the lab. They recognised the lab’s development direction and provided suggestions for its future development as well as the commercialisation of its research results.
