Creative City Pavilion of Art Macao opens on Thursday Converging contemporary artworks in four exhibition venues

“Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021” was officially inaugurated recently, followed by the successive launch of the Main Exhibition, Special Exhibition of Resorts and Hotels, Creative City Pavilion, Public Art Exhibition, Selected Works by Local Artists and Collateral Exhibition, trigging an upsurge of contemporary art, and creating an immersive cultural atmosphere to the entire city as a gallery and an art garden. The “Creative City Pavilion”, featured in the “Art Macao” for the first time this year, brings together the distinctive cultural essence of four UNESCO Creative Cities, including Macao, the City of Gastronomy; Nanjing, the City of Literature; Wuhan, the City of Design; and Linz, the City of Media Arts. The exhibition “Macao: City of Gastronomy - Bon Appétit!” will be inaugurated on Thursday (22 July) at the Macao Contemporary Art Center - Navy Yard No. 1, kicking off a series of exhibitions in the “Creative City Pavilion”.


Subscription period for the Year of the Tiger commemorative coins ending next Friday

The online subscription period for the 2022 Year of the Tiger commemorative coins (AMCM) will end at 6:00pm on 30 July 2021 (next Friday). Hence, AMCM would like to remind Macao residents who are interested in subscribing for the said coins to complete the online subscription process before the mentioned deadline (https://www.amcm.gov.mo/static/COCSCollection/terms_pt.html ). A service counter has also been set up at the lobby of AMCM during the mentioned time period to provide registration service for those elderly citizens who require assistance. UM organises science popularisation activity for secondary school students

In order to improve scientific literacy among secondary school students, the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) recently organised an activity titled ‘The Pursuit of Research’. During the activity, students from five secondary schools in Macao participated in biomedical experiments and guided tours of research laboratories.

Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for May 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 57% of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments reporting a year-on-year rise in receipts in May 2021, a drop of 16 percentage points from April; the corresponding proportion of Japanese & Korean Restaurants (27%) fell by 35 percentage points. Meanwhile, the proportion of interviewed retailers recording a year-on-year sales rise in May (76%) went down by 7 percentage points over the preceding month, with the corresponding shares of Supermarkets (22%) and Cosmetics & Sanitary Articles (70%) decreasing by 22 percentage points and 20 percentage points respectively, whereas all of the interviewed retailers of Leather Goods and Watches, Clocks & Jewellery registering a year-on-year sales increase. The Business Performance Index (BPI) values that reflect the trend of year-on-year changes in receipts of restaurants & similar establishments (65.1) and retail trade (78.2) were both higher than 50, implying that the business of these two industries in May fared better compared to the same month last year.
