Macao Polytechnic Institute launched e-platform for Portuguese language teaching resources to facilitate Portuguese learning

In order to further advance Macao as the “Sino-Portuguese Platform” and the “Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Talent Training Base”, to promote Portuguese language and related scientific research results in Macao to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Portuguese-speaking countries of the Belt and Road Initiative, and to facilitate the sharing of electronic resources in Portuguese language teaching and research, the Centre for Portuguese Studies of Macao Polytechnic Institute launched the Portuguese textbook Global Portuguese and the academic journal Orientes do Português online last year. These have been widely welcomed by Portuguese language learners. The Centre continues to promote the digitalization of Portuguese language teaching materials and has launched an online platform for Portuguese language e-textbooks and Sino-Portuguese academic monographs (https://cpclp.ipm.edu.mo/). Interested parties are welcome to read and download them for free.


UM faculty members and students teach Portuguese courses in Congjiang

A group of ten faculty members and students in the Department of Portuguese, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Macau (UM), recently taught Portuguese language courses in three schools in Congjiang county, Guizhou province. The language courses were commissioned by the Education and Youth Development Bureau of Macao and aimed to increase Congjiang students’ interest in Portuguese language and culture and strengthen their language skills.


Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – June 2021

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP209.8 billion (USD26.23 billion) at the end of June 2021. The reserves increased by 0.4% from the revised value of MOP208.8 billion (USD26.12 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-June 2021 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 85.3% of pataca M2 at end-May 2021.


Government strongly backs Electoral Affairs Commission in exercising duties legally

The Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government resolutely supports the Electoral Affairs Commission for the Legislative Assembly Election in refusing – in line with requirements under the Legislative Assembly Election Law – five candidate lists involving 20 individuals, from taking part in the upcoming election.


Tourist price index (TPI) for the 2nd quarter of 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the second quarter of 2021 dropped by 3.91% year-on-year to 116.93. The decrease was mainly attributable to lower hotel room rates and falling airfares; yet, it was partially offset by rising charges for restaurant services and dearer prices of clothing. Among the various sections of goods and services, price indices of Accommodation (-30.23%) and Transport & Communications (-9.96%) declined year-on-year, whereas the indices of Clothing & Footwear (+5.61%) and Restaurant Services (+4.44%) increased.

“Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021” officially opens on Thursday

A four-month mega international cultural and artistic event, “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021” will be inaugurated on Thursday (15 July), on the 1st floor of the Macao Museum of Art, presenting a movable feast of the city. On the occasion, the Main Exhibition themed “Advance and Retreat of Globalization” will also be inaugurated, with three exhibitions, distributed through various areas of the Macao Museum of Art, reflecting on the advances and retreats of globalization through the arts.


Consumer Council conducted specific price survey on 3 categories of products

The Consumer Council continues to conduct price survey on various kinds of products to enhance price transparency and survey result reveals price differences in different retail outlets. Consumers are suggested to use the data published by the Council for price comparison.


Cultural Affairs Bureau and Printing Bureau jointly launch book vending service

The Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Printing Bureau jointly launched a book vending service from today. Currently, a total of three vending machines developed by the Printing Bureau have been installed in the S. Lourenço Library, Taipa Library and Seac Pai Van Library, in order to facilitate the purchase of books and periodicals published by the two bureaus, thereby fostering a reading atmosphere. In the future, more publications by other government departments, such as policy addresses and public consultation documents will also be available in the kiosks.


IFTM students helping Hong Kong-style milk tea company to penetrate the Macao market

In the first half of 2021, students from Tourism Retail and Marketing Management engaged in an industrial project to conduct marketing analysis research for a Hong Kong-style tea company - Tea Tag (Macau) Limited founded by Mr. Tyson Yim, aiming to help the company promote its milk tea products and build the brand in the Macao market. Tyson’s brand of milk tea ranked top 20 in the National Contest and 6th at the national popularity pool for milk tea brand in 2020. Tyson himself was an apprentice to Chan Tsz Ping, the National Champion of Milk Tea competition.
