Measures for teaching staff of tertiary education institutions and non-tertiary education schools, college students to enter campus
At present, all tertiary education institutions and non-tertiary education schools are implementing the “Guidelines on COVID-19 Vaccination and Nucleic Acid Testing for Staff,” issued by the health department. The relevant guidelines were updated on January 5. The DSEDJ issued a notice to tertiary education institutions and non-tertiary education schools on January 19 to inform them that from February 21, 2022, all faculty members, college students, school teachers and staff must present proof of completing 2 doses of the primary series of COVID-19 vaccine 14 days ago, when entering the campus. Those who were not fully vaccinated 14 days ago (receiving 2 doses of mRNA vaccines or Inactivated vaccines in the primary series) need to take nucleic acid test every 7 days. Private continuing education institutions and private supplementary education support centers should also start to implement the above-mentioned guidelines on the same day. In addition, teaching staff and college students who hold a "Physician Evaluation Certificate of Unsuitability for Novel Coronavirus Vaccination" issued by the Health Bureau can make an appointment for a free nucleic acid testing service through the following link of the Health Bureau: https://app.ssm.gov.mo/certifiedunvaccinaternabook.

IAM: Negative results for all nucleic acid tests carried out on hamsters in pet shops
In view of the issue about the novel coronavirus detected in multiple samples collected from hamsters in a pet shop in Hong Kong, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has sent more staff to carry out inspections of pet shops selling hamsters in Macao on 18 January, and performed random nucleic acid tests for novel coronavirus on the hamsters in the pet shops on 19 January. All the results are negative. According to import records, no hamsters were imported into Macao by retail establishments of pets in Macao since last year.

Interest Income for the Year Distributes to Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System’s Government-Managed Sub-Accounts, at an Annual Interest Rate of about 1.63%
The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) announced that the interest income for the year 2021 had already been credited to the non-mandatory central provident fund system’s government-managed sub-accounts on 13 January 2022, at an annual interest rate of about 1.63%. To check the balance of the relevant sub-account, residents may use self-service machines, or log in to the non-mandatory central provident fund’s information platform using “My Government Account of Macao SAR”.

UM holds First Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Conference on Translational Medicine
The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) recently held the First Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Conference on Translational Medicine and the Fourth Macao Stem Cell Symposium. Combining both online and in-person elements, the two-day event attracted over 400 participants, including renowned scholars, biomedical experts, industry practitioners, researchers, and students from the United States, Singapore, mainland China, and Macao. During the event, participants discussed the latest progress in translational medicine, stem cell research, and the clinical application of research results in the two areas.

Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for November 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the business of restaurants & similar establishments and retailers improved in November 2021 as compared to October. There were 27% of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments reporting a year-on-year rise in receipts in November, a growth of 15 percentage points from October; the corresponding proportions of Chinese Restaurants (31%) and Western Restaurants (27%) rose by 22 percentage points and 19 percentage points respectively. Meanwhile, the proportion of interviewed retailers recording a year-on-year sales rise in November grew by 20 percentage points over the preceding month to 37%. The corresponding proportions of Leather Goods Retailers (40%), Department Stores (42%) and Watches, Clocks & Jewellery Retailers (36%) expanded by 40 percentage points, 33 percentage points and 27 percentage points from October respectively, whereas the share of Supermarkets (56%) dropped by 22 percentage points. For the Business Performance Index (BPI) that reflects the trend of year-on-year changes in business receipts, the values for restaurants & similar establishments (38.4) and retail trade (46.1) were both lower than 50, implying that the business performance of these two industries in November was less satisfactory compared to the same month last year.

Beware of fraudulent SMS from fake courier companies
Members of the public reportedly received a SMS with a company’s hyperlink and a parcel tracking code. The recipients were informed about the delay of their parcel’s delivery due to insufficient information. Recipients of the SMS clicked on the link of a courier website and were instructed to provide personal details and pay additional fee. Suspecting it was a scam as they had not purchased anything online nor had sent any parcels out, they reported the incident to the police immediately.

WTT Champions Macao 2021 China Stars presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group kicks off tomorrow
WTT Champions Macao 2021 China Stars presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group, organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and World Table Tennis (WTT) and co-organized by the Macau Table Tennis General Association, will be held at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion from 19 to 23 January 2022. The draw ceremony was held today and was attended by: Pun Weng Kun, President of the Sports Bureau; Liu Guoliang, International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Executive Vice President, WTT Council Chair and Chinese Table Tennis Association President; Philip Cheng, Director of Galaxy Entertainment Group; and players Ma Long, Fan Zhendong, Xu Xin, Chen Meng, Wang Manyu, Sun Yingsha from China, Li Qian from Poland and Cheong Chi Cheng from Macao, China, amongst others.
