Population Census to Begin from 7 August Census Promotional Videos Launched on Thematic Webpage

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) is going to conduct the decennial Population Census from 7 to 21 August this year, with the aim of collecting the latest demographic and housing information of Macao. The Census covers all units for residential, commercial and other purposes in Macao, as well as individuals living or staying in these units. All Census respondents will receive an advance notification letter from DSEC in early August. In addition, DSEC launched a webpage for the 2021 Population Census (https://www.dsec.gov.mo/Censos2021) to provide the public with the latest news and updates about the Census.


UM researcher develops robotic insects with ultrahigh agility

Inspired by agile insects in nature, a research team led by Prof Zhong Junwen, assistant professor in the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the University of Macau (UM) and a member of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics of UM, has developed robotic insects that are only 3cm long with ultrahigh agility and a controlled trajectory. The study has been published in Science Robotics, the top journal in the field of robotics. This is the first time that a research study by Macao scholars has been published in this journal. So far, the journal has published less than ten papers from higher education institutions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.


Change to Use the Entity Account of “My Government Account of Macao SAR” to Log in to FSS’s Electronic Filing Service

By applying for the use of Electronic Filing Service of the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao), employers can easily and quickly use the online system to file their obligatory system contributions, view and download the payment advice information of various types of contributions payable, and make payments through various electronic channels. In response to the entry into force of Law No. 2/2020 (Electronic Governance), the relevant system requires the use of entity user account of “My Government Account of Macao SAR” as the login account from now on.


UM makes significant progress in 3D genome architecture analysis

A team formed by researchers in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the University of Macau (UM), the Department of Biology of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), and the Department of Bioinformatics of Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) has reported significant discoveries on the establishment of three-dimensional (3D) genome structures during Xenopus tropicalis embryonic development. The research results will help people better understand the various defects and diseases caused by genetic abnormalities, such as the occurrence of cancer. The study has been published in the internationally renowned journal Nature Genetics.


Adjustments to the 39th Macao Young Musicians Competition

Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus pneumonia, part of the members of the jury of the 39th Macao Young Musicians Competition, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, are unable to visit Macao. In order to ensure a smooth progress of the Competition, this edition of the Competition will adopt an “online assessment of recorded performances and announcement of competition results”.


Transport and communications statistics for May 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 244,420 as at end-May 2021, up by 2.0% year-on-year. Light automobiles (111,889) and heavy motorcycles (103,537) went up by 2.3% and 3.6% year-on-year respectively. New registration of motor vehicles in May dropped by 16.6% year-on-year to 915, with that of heavy motorcycles (472) falling by 29.6% whereas that of light automobiles (426) lifting by 10.1%. From January to May 2021, new registration of motor vehicles increased by 26.0% year-on-year to 5,392. Number of traffic accidents in May totalled 1,107, with 393 persons injured. In the first five months of 2021, there were 5,204 traffic accidents, which caused 1,787 injuries.


IFTM final year students propose ideas for local entrepreneur in the creative industry

In the first half of 2021, the final year students from the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies engaged in an industrial project to support a local serial entrepreneur Mr. Pak-Ho Chau who recently started a company called Moti with a focus on immersive storytelling (e.g. producing video, short-film, animation series, music) that reaches multi-industries such as entertainment, event, education, innovation, research and development. This industry project is part of the course Entrepreneurship and the purpose is for students to help the company to research, develop and propose an original content programme for online platform such as Netflix and Amazon Prime to inspire audiences towards their future vision.


DSI introduced online service for citizens to modify contact address and email

In order to facilitate formalities for updating the contact address in the resident identity record, the Identification Services Bureau (DSI) launched an online contact information modification service on 30 June 2021. Besides updating contact address, this new service offers citizens an option to provide their email. Citizens can now update the contact address and email for themselves and their underage children, and also make a one-time update on the relevant information for other public departments simultaneously without leaving home.

A total of 335,125 COVID-19 vaccine jabs administered in Macao

As of 4pm on Tuesday (29 June), a total of 335,125 COVID-19 vaccine jabs had been administered in Macao, according to statistics provided by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre.
