External merchandise trade statistics for July 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export amounted to MOP1.12 billion in July 2021, up by 5.2% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP943 million) grew by 3.7%, with that of Machines, apparatus & parts and Watches rising by 67.4% and 20.7% respectively. Moreover, value of domestic exports (MOP176 million) rose by 13.6%, with that of Bread, pastry, cakes, biscuits & other bakers’ wares and Copper & articles thereof surging by 180.4% and 60.0% respectively. Total merchandise import soared by 111.7% year-on-year to MOP15.39 billion, of which imports of Mobile phones, Gold jewellery, Watches and Handbags & wallets swelled by 653.8%, 536.6%, 311.0% and 247.9% respectively; in contrast, imports of Other textile made-up articles and Articles for casino declined by 48.2% and 34.8% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in July 2021 totalled MOP14.27 billion.


People arriving via flights from mainland cities can present certificate of nucleic acid test with seven-day validity

Starting after the stroke of midnight on 1 September, individuals intending to enter the city via Macau International Airport from any mainland city will be able to present a ‘negative’ result certificate for a nucleic acid test for COVID-19 infection, done within seven days of them boarding their flight.


“Tap Siac Craft Market” in autumn calls for stall operators and creative handicraft workshops

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the “Tap Siac Craft Market” will be held from 19 to 21 November and from 26 to 28 November at Tap Siac Square. The calls for stall operators and creative handicraft workshops are open from 31 August and all interested parties are welcome to apply.


Results of survey on manpower needs and wages for the 2nd quarter 2021

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released results of the Survey on Manpower Needs and Wages for the second quarter of 2021. Survey coverage comprises Wholesale & Retail Trade; Transport, Storage & Communications; Security Activities and Public Sewage & Refuse Disposal Activities; however, the self-employed are excluded. As affected by the pandemic of novel coronavirus pneumonia, average earnings of full-time employees in June last year were notably dragged down as a relatively large number of employees in some industries were on unpaid leave. Due to the low base of comparison, average earnings in June this year generally increased.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for July 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 117 hotels & guesthouses were open for business in July 2021, an increase of 3 year-on-year; number of available guest rooms rose by 2.0% to 36,000. Data on hotels & guesthouses designated for medical observation were excluded in the compilation of the results. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms surged by 51.6 percentage points year-on-year to 63.7%, with that of 5-star hotels (63.6%) soaring by 55.8 percentage points.


Qingmao Checkpoint to open from 8 September

The New Guangdong-Macao boundary crossing point, known as Qingmao Checkpoint, will be open to the public from 3pm on 8 September 2021, according to an approval granted by the State Council, and based on discussion between the Guangdong Government and the Macao Special Administrative Region Government.

Census Concluded on 28 August Achieved Preliminary Response Rate at 83.3%

The data collection for the 2021 Population Census was concluded yesterday (28 Aug). The Census coverage rate reached 99.3% and the preliminary overall response rate was 83.3%, which met the expectations amid the pandemic. The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) extends its appreciation to the public for their support and co-operation, and appeals to the households who did not respond to the Census to provide information as soon as possible.


The DSEDJ urges parents to prepare their children for the start of the new academic year
