UM and Alibaba Dharma Academy win first prizes at top machine translation competition

The Natural Language Processing & Portuguese-Chinese Machine Translation Laboratory (NLP2CT) under the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) participated in the Metrics Shared Task at the Sixth Conference on Machine Translation with the translation team from Alibaba Dharma Academy. They won first prizes in five of the eight automatic translation quality tests, as well as two second prizes and one fifth prize, outperforming competitors such as Google and Unbabel.


MPI Holds Forum on Macao Integrated Tourism and Leisure Enterprises and Corporate Social Responsibility

The Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies (CJT) of Macao Polytechnic Institute held the Forum on Macao Integrated Tourism and Leisure Enterprises and Corporate Social Responsibility on December 2, 2021. The purpose of this forum was to discuss issues of general interest to the society about the corporate social responsibility in Macao’s gaming industry, promote exchanges among the six integrated tourism and leisure enterprises (ITLEs) and contribute to a more stable and healthy development of Macao's gaming and tourism industry. The forum attracted more than 100 participants from the enterprises, teachers and students.


General Ye Ting’s Former Residence closes from 11 to 16 January

Due to the staging of the sound theatre Back Home, integrated in the 21st Macao City Fringe Festival, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the General Ye Ting’s Former Residence will close on 11 January all day, at 5pm on 13 and 14 January, and at 1pm on 15 and 16 January.


January is a Contribution Month, FSS Reminds Employers and Residents to Pay Contributions on Time

January is a contribution month of the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao). In this month, employers are required to pay obligatory system contributions for their local long-term employees for the fourth quarter of 2021. If a non-resident worker is hired, the employer is required to pay the employment fee as well. In addition, arbitrary system beneficiaries can also pay their contributions in January. The FSS calls on employers and arbitrary system beneficiaries to use electronic payment channels as much as possible.


UM uses public funds judiciously to nurture local talent and assists needy students during pandemic

As the only public comprehensive university in Macao, the University of Macau (UM) has the responsibility to nurture local talent needed for the development of the city. In terms of resource allocation, the university strictly follows the principle of making judicious use of public funds, rewarding outstanding students, assisting students in need, and enhancing teaching quality, in order to continuously improve teaching quality while ensuring equity in education. The university also provides support to Macao’s positioning and talent development strategy through the launch of new degree programmes and the establishment of talent training centres.


Exchange for the XXIV Olympic Winter Games banknotes commencing today

The exchange of the XXIV Olympic Winter Games banknotes starts today (10 Jan) and will end on 25 March 2022. Each registered Macao resident can bring along his/her Macao ID card to the selected bank on the selected date and exchange for 2 pieces of the XXIV Olympic Winter Games banknotes issued by the Bank of China with an amount of MOP40. Registrants may also appoint a representative to exchange such banknotes on his/her behalf, and the required authorization documents can be found at AMCM website.


IFTM Open Day offers rich activities and encourages students to plan early for admission

IFTM hosted an Open Day today (9 January, 2022), offering an opportunity for high school students, parents and the general public to learn about admission information, teaching features and campus facilities through the sharing sessions and the guided tours. Tour Macao FUN Fair – Nostalgia Carnival unfolds around Rua dos Ervanários Continuously drawing visitors to explore communities for economic revival

Jointly organized by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and local community organizations, the series of activities entitled “Tour Macao FUN Fair” has gained much popularity among residents and visitors since it commenced last year. To steer community tourism and economy forward, the Tour Macao FUN Fair rolls out another fascinating activity of the series – the “Nostalgia Carnival” Themed Market in the vicinity of Rua dos Ervanários and Travessa do Armazém Velho from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays between 8 - 30 January 2022.The themed market is expected to lead visitors into the district for exploration and inject another impetus to the community economy.
