Art Macao presents “Art Fitting” that integrates augmented reality technology with arts
“Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021”, themed “To Create for Well-being”, features a total of 30 large-scale exhibitions. In order to break spatial and geographical boundaries and enhance the interactive experience between the public and the artworks, “Art Macao” establishes an online exhibition platform and showcases a new artwork “Art Fitting” by technology artist Chen Baoyang, integrating Augmented Reality (AR) technology with arts. “Art Fitting” is a mobile application that allows the public to experience a parallel world beyond physical exhibitions after downloading it.

Results of retail sales survey for 2nd quarter of 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the value of retail sales leapt by 200.0% year-on-year to MOP20.70 billion in the second quarter of 2021, and the sales volume index soared by 219.0% after removing the effect of price changes. The significant growth was due to the relatively low base of comparison in the same quarter last year.

Validity period of nucleic acid test certificate extended for people arriving from Guangdong
Effective after the stroke of midnight on Wednesday (25 August), individuals intending to enter Macao using boundary checkpoints with Guangdong Province will be required to present a nucleic acid test certificate proving a ‘negative’ result for COVID-19 infection issued in the preceding seven days. That is an extension from the current 48-hour validity requirement for nucleic acid test certificates in such situation.

Non-tertiary education students start school in Sept as scheduled, tertiary education students resume face-to-face teaching
The DSEDJ constantly pays attention to the prevention and control of the infection for the new school year, keeps close contact with health departments, dynamically studies and judges the constant changes in the development of the epidemic situation in Macao and mainland China. After analysing and studying the situation with health departments, if there are no major changes in epidemic situation, non-tertiary education students start school from 1 Sept onwards as scheduled and tertiary education students gradually resume face-to-face teaching from 6 Sept onwards.

UM’s latest breakthrough in fungal spore research helps reduce risk of fungal infection for immunocompromised people
A team led by Prof Wong Koon Ho in the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) has made a breakthrough in understanding the biology of fungal spores, which are the main infectious agent of fungal pathogens that can cause deadly infections in humans. Prof Wong’s team has discovered the dormancy mechanism of fungal spores. The discovery holds promise for protecting immunocompromised people, such as COVID-19 patients, from deadly infections caused by fungal pathogens. The study has received considerable attention in the field of microbiology and has been featured on the cover of Nature Microbiology.

Smooth Operation on First Day of Census Field Visits
The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) extended the data collection period for the Population Census to 28 August and resumed today (23 Aug) the six-day field visits by Census officers to households of 98,000 residential units who have not responded to the Census.

Commemorative envelope of “PHILANIPPON 2021”
“PHILANIPPON 2021” will be held in Yokohama, Japan, during 25th to 30th August 2021. Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau authorized the local philatelic agent to officially represent. To commemorate this Exhibition, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will issue the commemorative envelopes and provide the commemorative postmark cancellation service on site of the exhibition.
